Had a fantastic time in Borovets - Malina Village

Got back last weekend from a fantastic New Year week in Borovets. First time skiing so didn't know what to expect but my family & I loved it. Stayed at Malina Village in adorable log cabins much bigger than we expected. Food in restaurant was fine and hot enough, despite what we had heard. Free minibus into Borovets & ski depot so no problems there.

Got back last weekend from a fantastic New Year week in Borovets. First time skiing so didn't know what to expect but my family & I loved it. Free minibus into Borovets & ski depot so no problems there.
There was plenty of snow for our needs (although we were beginners) and when it snowed for 2 days it was just beautiful.
We had separate ski lessons from our kids which gave them a great sense of independance, and us a great sense of freedom. We made some wonderful friends and it was so sad to say goodbye on the last day.
Yes there were queues for the lifts but it wasn't a problem and as the snow came people spread out more over the skiing area and the queues were less.
We all felt so relaxed and refreshed from this holiday & can't wait to go skiing again. You can't beat the sense of personal achievement in learning to ski.
Tips for any first timers:
Take cool clothes for the evening - we were far too hot in our fleeces & jumpers!
Layer up in the day and you won't be cold - the exhilaration keeps you warm!
Try the hot (mulled) wine - its georgeous!
Have a fantastic time, we miss it loads & can't wait to go back. Very Happy

So pleased to hear that you and your family enjoyed Borovets. We are off at the end of Feb with our family. We've been watching the ski reports and reading all about the snow (or lack of it!), but its great to hear some positive news. Its our first trip skiing too, can't wait. Hope we can still get the mulled wine, sounds good!!

re: Had a fantastic time in Borovets - Malina Village

Hi Alison, thanks for the report. Although been to Boro last year, this year staying at the Melina. My tip has also been the mulled wine!! Just one question, does the buses run frequently between Melina and the ski slopes ie. every 10 mins/30 mins etc. and any tips would be much appreciated as we are going half term week! Ta. Yvette

re: Had a fantastic time in Borovets - Malina Village

Hi Yvette. You get a bus timetable in the chalet, but buses start in morning 8.45 every 15 mins until 10.30. Coming back every 20 mins but big gap 16.30 till 18.10, then every hour. Time for a hot chocolate or that mulled wine!
Taxi to Malina 10 levs or horse taxi 20 levs from centre.
More tips:
Very warm chalets - take hangers to dry ski clothes as no radiators. We took extra jackets & gloves to wear in evening while others were drying.
Only one small mirror in bathroom so ...

Only one small mirror in bathroom so nowhere to dry hair! May be worth taking a travel mirror.
We bought sledges (20 levs) & left them at ski depot each day to play on after skiing.
Loved it at Malina but might stay in hotel next year so we don't have to coat & boot up to go to dinner. Also kids could have gone to bed while we stayed up for a drink, as no bar at the Malina.
That's all I can think of for now. Have a lovely time-wish we could go in half term too! Alison x

re: Had a fantastic time in Borovets - Malina Village

Hi Alison, thank you very helpful, def. take some hangers, mirror and cork screw!!!. Did you have breakfast at the Yagoda. We have booked on a breakfast basis only. May have dinner there one evening. Out of interest did you go with Inghams, if so, which ski depot do they use, as last year we went with Thomsons, stayed at the Rila and the depot was the one on the left side of the slopes (queues the 1st day were mad!!). Ta. Yvette

re: Had a fantastic time in Borovets - Malina Village

Hi Yvette. Yes had breakfast at Yagoda (shared with Malina)- yummy, eggs toast sausage, + cereal, fruit, cold meats etc. Even had pizza with it one day!
Booked with Inghams - ski depot is the one by the gondola. Expected it to be chaos first day but it wasn't too bad. We went to the Rila one night- it seemed very big and grand so Malina might seem a bit of a contrast to you, but it was quiet, full of character and I miss it! My husband says I spend too much time on this board, especially now ...
