Just wondering if anyone can confirm halfterm dates (known for Rutland 11 - 19 Feb) and if Bansko is holding any World Cup/Major Ski events in order to avoid and thus make using the gondola a pleasure rather than hell?
The proposed WC dates will be stated on the FIS website, half term seems to spread over 2 weeks due to differant holiday times in the UK... but neither really is an issue, the gondola remaining quite busy for most of January and February anyway... English numbers were static, languishing around number 5 or 6 in the visitor stakes...
The answer with the gondola is to get there early (08.00 ish) or wait till 10.30 and gone. We are not aware of any plans outside of the acceptance that queuing is a real issue now from Ulen, last season saw a real need for additional uplift (10 buses do not even scratch the surface im afraid), if numbers are to continue to rise then this must be addressed....
Agreed half term is the week you state and the week earlier for private schools.
WC the last three years has always been held on the last weekend of the half term holiday 19/2 rings a bell.
They shut those runs for a number of weeks before the event too so go mid to last jan or early march if you want to ski them.
If you do go in feb half term resort is buzzing and when I have been nearly every day snow in te resort first thing plus drifts during the day.

Lift opens 8:30 am for public with staff going up earlier. We got there for 8:10/8:25 every day it never moved until 8:30. The latest we arrived at base station was 9:00 usually 8:45am. Longest line was past the T junction where all the ski shops are - even so as said that only added 10-15 mins to the time. I must say when you first see it it's depressing but when you realise how long it takes then you just relax.
Half term for us (in Windermere) is 11th to 15th Feb (which is 9th to 16th for the Sat to Sat holiday). However most of my guests are from further south and their half term seems to fall the following week which is 18-22nd (or 16th to 23rd Sat to Sat)
