Have you stayed in Hotel Ela or Mura

Has anyone stayed in the hotel Ela or Mura in Borovets. I am thinking of booking for next year and wondered what they were like? I stayed in the Rila this year but ate out every night so thought about a cheaper hotel for next year and eat out again, also want to stay in the middle of the resort. Would be grateful for any comments. Thanx.

Have just returned from Hotel Ela. Hotel wasn't too bad if you didn't intend to eat there. The food was absolutely dreadful, but we had been warned about it in advance. The only other downside was that there are no baths in the rooms. It would have been nice to come in from a days skiing to a nice long bubble bath. Although saying that the water was always hot for the shower.

What were the rooms like, warm, secure, clean bath or shower. I know the food will be bad but we will eat out. How far to the gondola? We stayed in the rila which as you know is central. How would the mura and ela compare to the rila??

The rooms were lovely and warm (too warm at times) we had to open a window! Shower was clean. Slightly less central than the Rila but good points were that it was quieter (ask for a room away from the lift and at the back of the hotel as apparently it can be a bit noisy - although we had no problems).

Ski depot at the gondala wasn't as busy as the one at the Rila - although not sure if the equipment was as good. If you don't fancy walking up to the Rila with your ski equipment you can ...

Any other questions please ask

stayed at the Mura last year. Rooms OK. Toasty warm, no bath but always hot water for shower. Very cosy bar with friendly staff. Food a bit odd. Mura is the other side of Samokov hotel from the Rila so only 5 mins walk to anywhere and very near Gondola. I would stay there again.

Hey deb stayed in both hotels. Both are the same type of building you've seen.
I prefer the Ela a bit, the rooms are refurbished in the last year and the heating was complete new last winter. The better staff of the Hotel the Mura had, the better restaurant and Bar Staff is in the Ela. May be a reason to choice the Ela is the Disco in the basement of the Mura. And you can change the Hotels for a drink in the evening.

Oh Laura, I remember only one hotel I stayed before, which had a bath ...

Oh Laura, I remember only one hotel I stayed before, which had a bath tube and this was the Victoria.

re: Have you stayed in Hotel Ela or Mura

Hi Deb
We stayed at hotel Ela last week. It was OK but not the three stars we were expecting. The room was clean, the pillows were like sacks of cement and there was only a shower room, no bath. The room and especially the shower room were adequately warm. It is only one minute away from the gondola, past where the horse taxis wait. The food was OK but only lukewarm.
Hope this is useful!

re: Have you stayed in Hotel Ela or Mura

rooms are very warm, as is the water, are well equpied, albeit with fairly old stuff.

to be honest, the bathrooms could have done with modernisation (i.e. a few cracked tiles, toilet wouldn't always flush, shower drain blocked quickly so you couldn't stay in the shower too long.) but were bearable.

the hotel is well positioned, and is about a minute form the samokov, behind the happy duck. as it is not bang in the centre, it is quiter, save for those pesky dogs that barked at 4.30am on ...

it is true that there is a playboy bar in the basement, but to be honest there are so many in borovets that wherever you stayed you would be close to one. the door to it is in the hotel bar, but to be honest I didn't notice it that much. I didn't get disturbed by the music from there either, but granted I was on the top floor!

the hotel bar is ace, cheap beer, friendly staff and a nice log fire.

all in all, it does not really compare to a three star hotel elsewhere, but it was fine and the accommodation certaintly didn't spoil our holiday. we had a great time, and although we probably won't return to bulgaria for some time as we like to try new palces, we will probably go back one day.

have a great holiday, hope this answers all your questions. any more, just post them and I will try to answer as best I can!
