Over 300 lorries have been stuck for more than 20 hours in Romania after Bulgarian authorities closed the other side of the border check-point at Oryahovo, saying that the road to Sofia was not fit to travel on because of the recent massive snowfalls.
The queue is more than 15km long, and growing. Some drivers have already run out of fuel because of keeping their engines running to stay warm in the sub-zero temperatures at night.

We flew out of Plovdiv last night and it was fine. It's only the 2nd time in 4 years we've seen snow at the airport, but the whole runway was clear.
Our transfer coach did get stuck in deep snow when the driver reversed round the side of Dak's to turn round though.
I'm not surprised. The only part of the road between Pamporovo and Sofia which had been properly cleared and gritted was a stretch in the Pazardchich area. The rest was awful.
left sofia on sunday after a delay the tug that tows the plane onto the runway was having trouble getting a grip so they called over another one to push us thier was a convoy of snow ploughs that cleared the run way but there still was snow on the runway amazingly if was still possible to take off
Light snow on runway should not be a problem for modern jets. Slush on runways is much worse. I know this as i've been to Ganda...and you don't want to go there in winter!!! Long story but we had to land there in an emergency and whilst on the ground for 1 hour+ the crew kept the No1 engine of the 747 running to help prevent icing. Outside it was a blizzard!! I was v v v surprised that our take-off wasn't delayed or cancelled. I kid you not, the snow either side of the runway was as high ...
