Helmets again

Can anyone give us more info on the helmet for children situation in Bansko. I thought it was the law and wherever we have been in Europe we have always hired helmets free with the rest of the gear automatically. You never see a child without a helmet on any slope.
However talk in this site has been to buy helmets before you come, as they seem to be scarce in resort.
Anyone with kids been to Bansko got any first hand info on this?
Thanks

re: Helmets again

My view on this is this............

I would never hire a helmet to protect something as precious as my childs life. There is no guarantee that the hire helmets have not been damaged from a previous fall which could lessen the protectiveness of the helmet.

With conditions as they are at the moment, it is essential that all children wear one even though it is not manditory in Bulgaria.

My advice is to buy one that complies with the BS approved safety level - irrespective of the costs ...

re: Helmets again

My advice would be to buy your kids helmets. At least then they can choose their own design, colour etc and you can feel confident that they will always have a helmet. It's a small investment that could save their lives.

re: Helmets again

Helmet prices in Bansko are about the same as here but they are in good supply. With the current icy conditions I would recommend that everyone wear a helmet not just the little ones.

re: Helmets again

I bought mine off the internet for £29 reduced from £65! Very Happy

If you have a Decathlon store nearby they are selling helmets (Quechua) for £20.

re: Helmets again

There's an ebay shop called skiwear4less that sells loads of discounted but new skiwear and equipment.

I bought my boys' helmets from there for around £20 each and they arrived within a couple of days.

One helmet was a little too big, but we added some padding from a cycle helmet and it was fine.

TK Maxx is another option, but choice tends to be more limited - I couldn't find helmets to fit in the store I went to.

re: Helmets again

Brought one from TK Maxx for £12.99 for a five year old and she decorated the black helmet herself with Disney Princess and My Little Pony and is very pleased with it!!!!

We had a free helmet last year in Norway where it is law. But someone did report the Helmet supplied in Borovets was not that great so we brought one to be sure.
