Helmets

Looking forward to going to Borovets soon but we've decided to take helmets with us - how do people carry them on the plane - in hand luggage?

we bought our kids out there,and took them as hand luggage home, only to get told that they count as your 1 peice of hand luggage,luckily a lad in our group had room in his case and put them in.no damage done in hold
