Helmets

Can anyone give me some advice on buying helmets with a chin guard. My wife has had a jaw joint replacement and needs this to protect her while skiing. We are off to pamps 10th of march and praying to the snow gods on an hourly basis!

re: Helmets

Wasn't able to hire a helmet for my daughter here in the UK but managed to buy one for her in TK Maxx at the weekend - paid £7. If you are close to a TK Maxx might be worth taking a look.

You could look at this helmet I saw on ebay - the peak is removable.

As for hiring helmets, I wouldn't ever consider doing that for children - you just don't know how safe it is, if the helmet has been dropped, slammed into a tree, whatever. I bought my children new helmets on ebay (have bought several over the years now, and thrown away the outgrown helmets as can't sell them). You could try an ebay store like skiwear4less. They ...

I bought my children new helmets on ebay (have bought several over the years now, and thrown away the outgrown helmets as can't sell them). You could try an ebay store like skiwear4less. They will post the helmet the same day and you get it the next day so you should just about have time before you go next week. Expect to pay £15-20 for a good quality brand new child's helmet, plus P&P.

Around New Year there were lots of child's helmets in TKMaxx branches, again around £20, but it is a bit late in the season now, though you could call your nearest branch to see if they have any. Look in yellow pages to see if there is a skiwear hire place near you. There are 2 near us here in Glos - one is a tent/camping place.

Someone once said to me that a cycle helmet would do in an emergency, and one teenage boy I know snowboards wearing his BMX/skateboard helmet. But I wouldn't know how safe that would be, I suppose any well-fitting protection is better than a bare head in an accident....

good luck to you both and have a great time.
