Am going to Borovets 2 Jan with 2 children, ages 12 & 7. Booked through Thomson who will not sell me lift pass,ski/boot hire/lessons for my 7 year old. They claim that it is law in Bulgaria that no children under 8 are allowed to use lifts or have lessons!!! I can't believe that is the case but am now seriously worried that my daughter won't be able to ski at all. I have been offered kindergarten with snow play but that is totally unacceptable. Does anyone have any information or experience ...

I would even consider a private instructor for both the children but that is no good if my daughter doesn't even have boots, skis or a lift pass!!! Help please.
my 5 year old was ok last year-she skied free, they knew her age when we booked with airtours, and no problem this year either, says in airtours brochure
age 7 ok for lift pass, maybe try another company or is that too late,
just looked at the thompson 7-11 no problem, go see them!!!!!
I was just about to ask the same question!! I have two girls who are 7 & 8 and crystal would only sell me one learn to ski pack. My travel agent reckoned it would be easy to sort it once we were there, but now I'm a little concerned. I hadn't heard about the ski lifts etc.
Saul - Crystal are the sister company to Thomsons and have exactly the same info in their brochures. Other tour operators ( Neilsons and Inghams) are offering learn to ski packs in Borovets for ages 7 - 11 so I am hoping that it will all be bookable once we get there!! Is a bit of a worry though and of course you don't know what costs will be involved.
I had the same concern, my 7 year old was ok but my 5 year old was going to be stuck in a snow play kindergarten only play skiing an hour a day! (whereas he skied 6 hours a day this year in france!).
I contacted my tour operator (Balkan), and they sorted it all out, and gave me the ok to book my 5 year old into full ski pack (Lessons, equipment and lift pass).
from what i have gathered looking through the many "older messages" on this site is that once over there it should be relativley ...

Good luck, hope the snows on its way!

We booked with Thomsons and they didn't even offer us a kindergarten place for our 5 year old. We had to ask several times for a place but I think we have got one now (albeit a verbal arrangement). I have raised virtually the same question as you before regarding lift passes and was told by the guys & gals on this forum that it is the norm to put your little ones infront of you in the queue because it isn't possible to buy a lift pass for them.
peter, its complete b******s about there being a 'law' banning 7yr olds, the locals ski from all ages, i might be able to suggest an alternative, you really dont want to buty it in the resort, use the link and mail me direct
Peter if I where you I would tell Thomson they are talkin utter utter C...!!! I have never heard such tosh! I have seen children on ski's much younger than 5 and how the hell did they get to the top of the mountain fly?!! Bulgarians and Law ha ha ha. Dont worry mate your kid will be able to ski
Peter, Our six yr old was fine last year through Crystal and was in the Kids Ski School all day, she is seven this year and again no probs booking through Balkan - although their 'free' kids ski pack did not include a lift pass for which we had to pay extra.
