Honest assesment of Pamps

Just back from Pamps. Stayed in Finlandia Hotel. Prices have increased by 25% across the board from same time last year. I travelled with a party of 10 from Dublin, i had read the discussion board before travelling so was well prepared for new pricing structure.

Some of the postings appear very negative but remember this is a developing Eastern European country and Dublin used to be a really cheap place to go just a few years ago, but not any more. Things change it's called progress, ...

Reference the taxi prices i did as suggested and agreed a price before use, this actually made the taxis cheaper than last year. No gripe there!

The ski packages and lift passes are still the cheapest available and this years conditions were excellent. There are signs of a new chair lift in place of the button lift adjacent to the Blue practice slope ( this is almost in place). People have had to pay to use the toilets for years.

Pamps is a unique experience the vast majority of Bulgarians are friendly, the atmosphere is warm, people are there to ski but nobody takes it too seriously. it's not about the price of things it has a innocence that few other holiday destinations have. They are catching up but thankfully slowly.

If you like Bulgaria you love it, if you don't you won't. Those that return year after year are not swayed by the prices and certainly not the food. I will be back maybe not next season but soon.

If you only ever ski in Austria or Canada then stay there you won't like Bulgaria, it's still relatively cheap, friendly, what you see is what you get. it's certainly not Whistler but i wouldn't want it to be.

re: Honest assesment of Pamps

Pretty much as I see it!
Basic holiday cost for 4, £1,800, flights, transfers, B&B, passes, lessons and ski hire (Interski).
Spent about £650 for lunches, evening meals, hot chocs and drinks etc.
So the whole cost was about £2,500 for a family of 4 in half term, cannot beat it for value for money.
Generally friendly people (treat them as you would wish to be treated yourself), nobody taking it too seriously, food fine if you go with an open mind, skiing good value if you are an ...

Having said all that I may try somewhere else next year for a change then I will have a direct comparison.
