Now the down side
Our Hotel we Stayed at the Hotel Ela well what can i say (Not much good). On arrival it seemed a nice hotel, nice entrance with bar. We arrived late evening and were given our keys to rooms lets just say they were very basic and very bland with especially small bathrooms and no phones in the rooms you can hear the lift all night. When we had taken bags to our rooms we where told to go to the restaurant to get some food which im sure we would have done if the food had been appealing not to mention even slightly warm the chips were ok but everything else was poor. i had read reports of the poor food before i went out to borovets but thought considering reps and people in borovets apparently take note of what is written on this site that things may have improved. I was wrong The hotel staff were not very friendly and you didn't even get a free drink of anything with your evening meal.
The plus side (and there is only one)
The hotel is one of the only ones in Borovets that has its own security guards.
Night Life
Very good try the:- Buzz Bar
The Happy Duck
Frankos
The Black tiger
Food Great hotdogs at the roadside
The Red lion had great meal there
Frankos do great bacon sandwiches
Weather Was warmer than we expected for first few days didn't effect the sking at present it is very cold and snowing so anyone going this week is in for a good time
On a Whole other than the hotel Borovets was a great place and have already looked into going again next year.
I have also got back from a week in the Ela. To be honest I was pleasantly surprised by the standard of the hotel as I had been expecting much worse. The rooms were a good size, they were warm and the shower was nice and powerful and my room was nowhere near the lift. :-) As I didn't spend much time in my room that was all I needed. The food wasn't great but again I had been expecting it to be worse. There was always something that was fairly good and you could rely on there being feta ...
There was always something that was fairly good and you could rely on there being feta cheese in some guise available at every meal, but as I love feta that was great :-). The food was edible and provided me with enough energy for a days boarding which again was all I required. We did eat out a couple of times and the mexican Mama Citas was very tasty.
We always found the hotel staff to be helpful when changing money, organising safety deposit boxes etc. I guess the difference in opinion here is due to expectations, mine were very low and were therefore exceeded so I was happy. If you want great food all the time then don't go to Borovets and expect to eat in your hotel. But if you are going for the snow and cheap apres ski and are happy to simply fuel your body rather than enjoy a great culinary experience then it is perfect.
