Hotel Elina - Pamporovo

We're staying in the Elina from 18th Feb, 3 adults and 4 kids. From Nottingham but flying from Birmingham. Anyone else staying there at the same time ? If so, see you soon, Gibbo.

There are four of us (2 adults, 2 teens) staying there that week. We live near Manchester but are flying from Nottingham E Midlands. Is this 'don't fly from your local airport week? See you in the bar perhaps, John. Booze

re: Hotel Elina - Pamporovo

Stayed in the Elina Hotel 21st - 28th Jan, had heard a few bad reports so tried to upgrade at the last moment but it was too late.

Boy were we glad we didn’t upgrade!

We got room 502 – not so much a room as an apartment! Sitting room with two sofas and a log fire, large balcony with views up the mountain to the tower, bathroom with corner bath and shower over. We got room 502 – not so much a room as an apartment! Sitting room with two sofas and a log fire, large balcony with views up the mountain to the tower, bathroom with corner bath and shower over. Then stairs up to the bedroom which was just massive! Biggest bed I have ever seen, another sitting area with table and chairs and a chez lounge, mini bar in both bedroom and sitting room – all modern and tastefully decorated. It's in the middle at the top when looking at the picture of the hotel.

The suite was far too warm the first two nights (had to sleep naked on top of the covers!) then dropped to a touch on the cool side for the rest of the week but lighting the log fire got the place boiling again! Temperatures on the mountain dropped to -27 mid week so this may have had something to do with the drop in hotel temperature!

Only thing to knock the apartment is the stairs up to the bedroom these are made of polished wood and are very steep – not to be attempted in your socks, by young children, or when you are very drunk! Covering the stairs with carpet or a non slip finish would be recommended!

We managed to get stuck in the lift for 10 mins on the third day – it was out of service for the rest of the week which was a pain when you are on the top floor.

Food as you’ve bound to have heard before can be variable to say the least when eating all inclusive anywhere in Bulgaria. However I thought breakfast was great every morning – a selection of hot German hotdog style sausages, bacon (some mornings), fried eggs, eggy fried bread and a sort of scrambled egg with bits of ham through it. There was the usual selection of cold hams, cheeses, breads, pastries and cereals and some fresh fruit.

The evening meal was less appetising! A selection of pork or chicken dishes – I’ll not try to describe them as I’ve never seen anything like them before! The salads on offer where good and the fresh fruit salad for sweet is a real winner. Dinner was OK the first night, thoroughly enjoyed it the second night and couldn’t eat it at all the third night (everything was stone cold and disgusting). We eat out the rest of the week with a great meal and drinks never costing more than 20 lev each (about £7).
We didn't order from the menu in the Elina but a few other guests did and gave it the thumbs up. The BBQ in the Murgavets and the White Hart are highly recommended for food.

The rep said you could walk to the centre of town in 25 mins – maybe in the middle of summer and you are training for the Olympic walking team – taxi’s with a meter will charge you about 13 lev into the middle of the 'resort'. Some taxis will try and charge you 15 lev each way but you should be able to agree 10 lev in advance - even for metered taxis.

A mini bus runs to and from the ski schools every half hour in the morning and afternoon. It does feel a bit 'isolated' in the evening but a 5 min taxi ride will take you in to the hart of the resort and then you're sorted for the rest of the night!

The staff were friendly and we met some great people staying in the hotel which really made the holiday special for us!

Would I stay there agin? Maybe if they could guarantee the same room but I'd probably prefer to be in the centre of the resort so I could pop into one of the pubs or down to the shop whenever I felt like it!

Enjoy you're holiday!!!! Wink
