Hello - I will be skiing for the first time in Borovets and looking to book a package for my family mid Feb 2018 - 2 children aged 11 & 15. Has any one stayed the hotel Iceberg? What is it like?. Also what's the view on the quality of ski equipment if going though Balkan holidays and standard of Ski school. Thanks for any responses
Hello Phil. I have been to Borovets many times. Never stayed at the ice berg as it is a long way down the hill from the slopes. Long walk in the morning up hill. I think they have a mini bus services you can use? . It stops at the samakov and then you walk. I have used hunters for ski rentals and had no problems. There are lots of rental shops. I hate walking with my boots on and carrying skis. You may end up carring some of the kids stuff?
I believe the Iceberg is at the bottom of the Rila slope so ideal location for ski school.A bit of a walk 5mins down hill to the Gondola but the resort is compact. Not stayed at this Hotel myself but reviews are good and I would certainly consider it.
I've been to Borovets many many times and that hotel is located just down the hill from the Samakov Hotel about 100 yrds max down the road/hill. I would say it is just on the outskirts of town so will not be too noisy at night if that is what you are looking for.

Hi Phil

I've never stayed at that hotel but walked past it every day last year as we stayed in the Borovets Gardens last season, the grand parents took our son into the soft play area located in the ground floor and said it looked nice, we also considered it for this season. We only didn't choose it as we have a 2 year old and need an apartment so the grandparents can entertain him with a bit more room.
If you go through an operator you will most likely end up in one of 2 main Ski schools (Samakov hotel or Borosports these have about 3 depots) the instructors speak very good English and they have taken me from absolute beginner to now being in advanced classes (we have now skied in USA and elsewhere in Europe without tuition) but still take the lessons as they are cheap in a deal. Obviously the depots are busy but they are very streamlined and manage to get everyone through on the first morning without too much stress. Last season we booked the Samakov hire and school direct on their website, the depot is in the basement of the hotel and they allow free storage every night if you want to use it.
