We stayed at the Samakov and it is better than a lot of other european hotels I have stayed in. Like it says above, watch out for the plug sockets and bath and you will be fine. Also, not a good idea to leave expensive toiletries (lynx, gillette etc.) lying around as the maids might take a shine to them!
Breakfast is OK, but evening meals are abysmal. There are 5 bars (main, panoramic, pool, sports bar and a bar where the internet is), bowling alley, doctors, dentist, pool, ...
Paul,

In my opinion it is better than the Rila, it is also run by the government (where the Rila is not!) so you get the police wandering around at night, and looking after the nightclub downstairs etc.
Pro's...efficient lifts, ski gear is ok...you can get bacon at breakfast, rooms are cleam..ping pong, pool, shooting and bowling available...very warm in rooms..hot water doesn't run out..VERY handy for gondola and ATMs..ski-school party on the last night-don't miss it
Cons..TV in room is badly tuned..bathroom will flood..evening meal is not terribly good..guys who look after ski gear are miserable..swimming pool is cold..tatty room furniture..wardrobe is tricky to open..(just little ...

It's not a bad hotel and from other messages on here sounds better than the Rila.
I would suggest eating out in the evening..Greene King is just round the corner..wish i'd found that before the last day
Having been to both, im convinced the Samakov is by far the better, ok theres a few things that could be better, applies to both, but overall its much better, youve done well
Stayed there 10/1-17/1 with my 16 year old daughter, nice hotel on the whole. Room was cleaned every day, view we had was excellent and the meals were filling if not too hot.
Good choice........
