Hotel Samokov

Hi all,

I am a complete beginner and am looking to go skiing in January for my birthday. I have got a quote to go to hotel Samokov (http://www.samokov.com/) and that is flying from East Midlands, Transfers, Learn to ski pack, Half Board for £490 each.

is this a good deal? Is the hotel good? Could I get a better price for a hotel near the slopes? I'm not particularly fussed about accomodation but want it near slopes, in fact I don't even mind where it is, just want it cheap!

How much does it cos for food and drinks in Bulgaria? How much is it for nightclubs and things like this?

Thanks!

Hi Anna,

That doesn't sound too bad, but depends if you are in a group or not.

I'm going in January (27th) and there is a group of 7 at the mo (but this could change) and it's £439 per person Half Board at the Hotel Perun (4*) which is with the full ski package, and this is with only 2 in each room, and 1 on his own (paying more tho). We are going from Gatwick so I don't know if that makes any difference, and it's booked through First Choice who claim to be the cheapest.

Anna, that sounds about right. We fly from Belfast and are paying about £480 each for full ski package. 28th Jan so cant wait. The Samokov hotel is a 2 min walk from the slopes and is right at the bottom of the gondola station so you are right at the slopes. The rila hotel is right on the slopes so you could price it also.

re: Hotel Samokov

Have a look at Balkan Holidays, they tend to be slightly cheaper and everything other than the flights is the same as with the other tour operators.

If it your first time and you want Borovets, try the Rila or Rila Apartments, you walk out the front door and are right on the slopes.

If you are going to Borovets make sure you fly into Sofia, and for Pamporovo use Plovdiv (transfer times are alot shorter).

re: Hotel Samokov

above comments sound about right, but as said, try Balkan if your after the cheapest, basic but ok!
samokov is fine, good ski school, a short walk to the nursery slopes and good facilities at the hotel.
Look back at older posts on the site, theres plenty to answer any questions you may have. First time skiing- you will have a great time wherever you stay in borovets, and its cheap!
Enjoy!

re: Hotel Samokov

The hotel is okay but the food is very basic but I believe alot of Borovets is like that.

If you want to be near the Gondola then the Samakov is perfect. However, I wasn't confident enough to ski on the slopes up the Gondola so found the trek from the hotel in the morning pretty hard work in ski boots and coming back at night can be pretty scary if you walk on some ice. The Rila is at the bottom of the slopes but again if you want to ski mostly at the Gondola you would have a trek from ...
