How bad....

does the weather have to be before they close the lifts in Boro ?

Is it just a factor of wind or it also if visibility is real bad due to snow/mist ?

I see the the wind is forecast to get up next weekend when we arrive...so just wondering if this will affect the slopes.

It currently says 13mph - 17mph not sure if that is bad but it is currently sat at 5 - 6 mph.

I am no John Ketley so looking for inspiration from those more experienced !

Would hate to spend the first 2 days ...

re: How bad....

It will need to be pretty horrendous before they would consider closing the pistes. The winds would need to be A LOT more severe that 15 - 17km/h I can assure you. Even "usual" blizzards wouldn't close the pistes as this happens fairly often during periods of heavy snow. You wouldn't however, want to go off-piste without checking with the local guides office because lots of fresh snow also means avalanche risk! But because the pistes get groomed every day there is little or no risk of ...

But because the pistes get groomed every day there is little or no risk of avalanches on the "tourist" slopes.

You may have a particularly cold and blowy days skiing if the weather is bad, but i doubt that they would close the pistes and shut down the ski lifts etc.

The gondola was closed last Monday because of wind in Boro

re: How bad....

last year when i went (first week of feb) the gondola in boro was closed for about 4 out of 6 days because of high winds.

what kind of numbers contributes to a 'high wind' though, I have no idea

re: How bad....

They may temporarily shut down the gondolas but you will still be able to use the t-bar, button and some of the ski lifts (not gondolas) which will allow you to carry on skiing.

re: How bad....

I was on the Gondola last Friday and it was swinging like a pendulum and they never stopped it. Great fun ....... NOT Sad

Suprised me thry took you up when it was more or less whited out.

If it is shut you can walk to the four man chairlift (about 10 minutes) and get about 2/3 of the way up. But you won't be able to get to the top.
