How do I stop my skis going rusty?

Hi,

now that my skiing is over until next year (sniff) Crying I wondered if anyone has any tips for keeping my ski edges sharp and free from rust?

I normally store them in the roof of my garage, which is pretty dry, but there's evidently sufficient airborne moisture for a nasty layer of surface rust to form during the year.

Hi,

now that my skiing is over until next year (sniff) Crying I wondered if anyone has any tips for keeping my ski edges sharp and free from rust?

I normally store them in the roof of my garage, which is pretty dry, but there's evidently sufficient airborne moisture for a nasty layer of surface rust to form during the year.

Yes I can get them serviced each time I go on holiday, but as the edges are pretty good at the moment (having just had them done in Borovets) I was looking for some way of protecting them and keeping them that way.

Could I, for example, cover them in grease or oil, or would that cause more problems than it fixed?

Any help or suggestions much appreciated.

Regards

re: How do I stop my skis going rusty?

You could do either or all of the following:

1. Full hot wax taking care to cover the edges.

2. A cold liquid or cream ski wax.

3. Rub or drip ski or candle wax over the edges. (But this doesn't stop the bases drying out.)

4. Wipe "Zardoz Not wax" (Liquid Teflon) over the bases and edges.

Hope this helps.

I always spray mine with WD40 before storing them.

Thanks for the suggestions.

I like the idea of a combination of candle wax and WD40 - cheap and simple.
