I went to Borovets at the end of Jan for the my second time and like last year had a great time. Hopfully we should be doing the same next year.

I was wondering though how has this year compared to others re the snow fall.

The reason I ask is by our last day loads had metled so much so I thought those ariving for the next week wouldn't be skiing too much. The red run by the single chair lift was almost brown!!!!

It was similar last year although we went earlier in the season so I thought it was just because of when we went but as this year we went later I'm beginning to wonder if that's how it is and you just need to be lucky with timing or wasn't there much snow around this year?

I never went to Pamps last year, but in 2002, I went in mid Febuary (half term week) and it had not snowed for 5 weeks and was hot. The Snow was getting bare, the mud was showing through . On the green run at the top the tarmac on the road underneath was showing through.

But if you check the snow report archives its looks like last year was a good year.

End of march Pamp 70cm. Borovets 90cm, and bannsko 150cm of snow.

for some reason, be it global warming or whatever the snow cover seems to be getting less, and its becoming a bit of a lottery as to whether or not you will have snow. This isnt just in Bulgaria its all over europe and is causing many a headache, there has even been talk of having to develop resorts at a higher level to guarantee snow. The other alternative is to spend loads on snow cannons, but then again these need minus temps to work. I wouldnt suggest going to early in the season, more chance of snow later on. We have skied every year weve been to Borovets even three years ago when the slopes were more at home to sheep, we just travelled down the road a bit, so dont despair, just dont go in december!!!!!!!!!
