How much money should I bring?

Hi,

Off to Bulgaria / Pamporovo for the first time on 21st Jan.

I've heard prices are quite cheap there but how much spending money should I budget for..?

Balkan tours to the Elina for 7 days, half board and ski pack included so all we have to budget for is lunch and Booze and the odd evening meal as we don't want to stay in the hotel every night.

Cheers!

re: How much money should I bring?

Don't worry even if you run out there is a cash machine outside the perlik (in the centre).

Depends what you eat, last years lunchs were about £3 - £4 for pasta + depends what you drink hot choc brandy about £2.

If you miss ski bus you will need to pay for taxis as poss too far to walk to Elina and no real foot path, plus taxis if you want a meal out. I think they were about 10 lev last year, so about £4 each way. but always barter!!

Hi Anthony

Im heading to the Elina with my hubby and 9yr old son on 23rd Dec for a week h/b. Few people in my work have been and they say you can't spend your money there. I've been told to go to the restaurant at the top of the mountain where the tv mast is to get something to eat, apparently their hot chocolate is top drawer (laced with whiskey) and the lamb dinners at the best ever.

word of caution

Ive been going to borovets now for a few years and every time i go its gets a little more expensive, not sure about pamps but the days when a pint of beer was 50p and a bottle of champs was £1 are gone now, most bars in boro charged 3 lev for a beer 4 lev in hotels, about £1.20/£1.60 per pint, as for meals, per person inc drinks and starters/ desserts £10 each should see you ok, less for the kids obviously, Prices in borovets and i guess pamps are still good value for money but they dont ...

have fun , Kel

I'm not going to comment on this as last time several people said that I am either an alcoholic or I would have needed a stomach pump before returning.

thats not bad me and other half take about £400 each and spend as our holiday is our blow outtime and we say yes to most requests from children and we say yes to what we want - mainly drink each and every eve

but wth its our week of fun and we all enjoy

re: How much money should I bring?

Paula as kel has said it is not that cheap anymore. This was true in the 80s-90s but prices are creaping up year on year. Having said that it is still much cheaper than here or any other ski resort in the world. Expect to pay around £10 a head for a 3 course meal with drinks maybe more now. Bear should be around the £1 a bottle mark. I took £600 last time I went for the 2 of us and went through most of it. Did eat out most nights. Very Happy
