I would suggest flying to Sofia from Gatwick with Bulgaria air at the cost of about £170 return. Then a taxi to the central bus station for the mountains. The taxi driver will know it but agree the price before hand should be fairly cheap about 10 levs (£3-4) then little mini busses go to Samakov (the town just down from Borovets) every half hour to 1 hour when they are full this is abou 4 levs (£1.50). At Samakov you can either take a taxi (10 levs ish) or another mini bus (1lev ish) to Borovets. I would advise learning a few words or a phase book. It will get you a long way and cheaper prices plus not many people in Sofia will speak english. On the mini busses you just approach them and ask where they are going just say borovets and thet will say yes or no. Don't forget that the nodding and shaking of heads is backwards out there! Passport wise you don't need a visa for up to 30 days on a british passport so thats no problem just turn up. Hotels in Borovets - I would recommend steering clear of the big hotels in the brochures they are very overpriced for what you get as they are nearly all booked through the holiday companies. I would go for the smaller private hotels you can find on the internet. They will be cheaper and much cosier and better service Try one called house djambaski or something I know the guy that owns it and he is a top bloke. and will look after you.
