Hi folks,
Thanks for the emails but I am still here! Sorry for not posting on this forum this season, but I have concentrated on another location as we are not coming to Bulgaria this season.
Here is the invasion week forecast and I mean weather forecast because I dread to think what else may happen!
What a season it has been with some unusual activity way up in the clouds to do with the Jetstream. A blocking high pressure over northern Europe is not helping either by squeezing weather to the east bypassing Bulgaria. Interestingly, the Jetstream is not shifting too much but enough to allow some low pressures to fly across Bulgaria in the next 5 days or so. The Jetstream is going to get ‘stuck’ over the UK and gives us virtually a week or two of constant wind and rain. (It could all change though as we know!!)
As for Bulgaria, a bit of rain/snow to come Friday morning depending on altitude but nothing to write home about.
Here’s the difficult bit..An intense ‘storm’ will pass through Bulgaria starting Friday afternoon lasting into Sunday. I cannot figure out accurately what will be rain and what will be snow from the offset. There is a good chance that at lower levels, say 1500m and below, it will be rain/sleet for quite a few hours before temperatures drop and it turns to snow. Temperatures are set to drop during Saturday and remain cold until Sunday before a slow increase in temperature through to about Tuesday. This increase during Sunday, again, may produce some rain at lower levels but I doubt it.
The other issue over the weekend is the wind and this could be a problem for the gondola. Sunday it maybe snowing at resort level but not at top station because of altitude of cloud.
At this stage, generally throughout the week there will be snow showers and also some sunny periods here and there but from midweek there seems to be a good chance of some more snow. Temperatures are generally going up from Monday/Tuesday and will increase slowly all week which could cause a problem for lower levels later in the week.
This weekend has the potential to produce a good dump of snow, but as I have said it may not be all of snow to start but let’s hope so because the slopes need a good base.
I hope this helps folks and as always….it could be subject to change !!
Great to hear from you. I noticed you didn't appear until some snow arrived!!!!
Your forecast are always appreciated, as we are all aware how spot on they usually are, so.........any more would be gratefully appreciated, especially for those of us not going out till March!
All the best and wishing you great skiing this year
