Icy Patches... help

Do these just make you go faster and perhaps skid depending on the angle you ski over them?

I'm new to skiing so trying to learn lots before i go Smile

It just means your edges don't bite quite so well so you could slide a little out of control.

Don't worry, you'll soon get the hang of it, and after while you'll love the icy bits Razz

re: Icy Patches... help

Advice given to me by instructors at the Snowdome -where there are always icy patches by mid- way through a session is to do a BIG snow plough.
Unfortunately I didn't manage to pass this on to my husband or son who both came a croper on icy patches.
Not that they'd have taken any notice of me as I'd been stretched off after the last run of my final lesson some months ago and am still viewed as a liability. Wink

re: Icy Patches... help

this thing will help you, I did the following MANTRA with each turn;
"this is no ice, I can ski ice, its fake ice, what ice, ..."
It worked for me that good that I came down first with no troubles & full of convidence, and that the others were still half way!
*that was on very deep red/black slope
I DID IT Cool and I'm ready for Bansko Razz

We don't think of you as a liability... just a slow coach! Wink

re: Icy Patches... help

Nice sharp edges will help you grip on ice and reduce slipping.
