I know what you mean, we stayed in the hotel in march 08 and thought that it was ok but have booked the villas for the 30th Jan and everytime I find pics on them I wonder if we have done the right thing?
From the outside they look great and you could actually ski right up to the door if the conditions are right. the location is right behind the rila.
I found one review on the net about them which said basic but clean and really only for 4 people not 6.

At the end of the day were hoping to ski all day and go out at night so the villa will just be somewhere to sleep, change and wash. I just hope they are warm.
Happy New Year All.
They are warm and comfy, it is a bit difficult to get the temperature just right though. We were in number 9 and there were a couple of broken bits and the electric sockets are a bit loose but everything else is OK.
If you are self catering, it is well worth upgrading to half board for 10 lev a day (5 for kids). The kitchen is not really suitable for cooking and is not very well provided for. The food in the hotel is reall good though.

We are a family of 6 and it worked out really well for us in the villas.
just found a link to a video of the villas that you may want to look at?

You could pay for an upgade at the hotel last feb/march but its cheap enough to eat out anywhere.
think we'll stick to eating out, more fun and makes it a proper holiday
cheers for the youtube link, they look really smart from the outside and quite snug on the inside, not much room in the living space area but I think we'll get over that, we've lived in worse!!!
We are in the villas the week before you so will write a review on them when out there.
The gondala is a short 5 minute (max) walk away but be warned there are big queues for the first hour or so of opening. Its worth the wait though if your spending the day up there but the prices are high on the mountain and quality was not that good.
If your eating out try Katy`s for the best (real) steaks, and for value for money, good food and friendly staff that didnt rip (us) off try the Crown / ...

If your eating out try Katy`s for the best (real) steaks, and for value for money, good food and friendly staff that didnt rip (us) off try the Crown / Golden horn on the left hand side of the nursery slopes (very end bar/restaraunt). We ate at alot of places but ended up snacking on fries, burgers or Kababs at one of the many kiosks that are dotted all around.
If you like chicken order half of a chicken otherwise we found that alot of places served the prosessed reformed stuff.
Be aware of short changing and check your change when paying for drinks as some staff automatically take change as a tip so when they did that to us we didnt leave anything on the table when we left.
We have just got back from a week staying in one of the villas and had a fab time. They are quite basic and i dont think i would want to try and do much cooking! If you need equipment just ask at the hotel reception they are quite helpful. We were glad we took the 1/2 board option as we found eating out every lunchtime (generally expected during lessons) soon became expensive. Have a great holiday.
