In Bansko now

In Bansko now. Posting this from Hotel Perun.

Just scanned some of the posts on this forum - there seem to be some mixed messages. The reason for this is because the snow arrived today high up on the mountain, but rained lower down.

Got up this morning and was disheartened by the rain. Went up the gondola and there was a lake. But our instructor took us higher and, wow, there was snow, and lots of it!

It snowed on top of the mountain pretty much all day today. The run we were using is the one to the left of the webcam on the home page of this site. They were bulldozing snow down from top of the mountain all day, so the snow depth was quite variable. In places it was a few inches deep, in others it massed up to about a foot or more.

Can't wait for more skiing tomorrow! Even before the new snow it was great. The road has been open, and the snow cannons kept it in good order up until the rain (at the bottom of the mountain) arrived today.

Hotel is great. Don't listen to the rubbish about food etc.

Got to go... need shut-eye Wink

re: In Bansko now

The only activity below the gondola station this week has been the snow road. There is no snow off-piste, so everything has been relying on the cannons. I think that's been frustrating for advanced skiiers, because the more difficult runs have become tricky, but for beginners and intermediates its just meant that we have had to learn to deal with ice and thin coverings of snow on areas kept going by the cannons.

It's been fun though! And now we've got snow! Next week's skiiers are in for ...

Very Happy

re: In Bansko now

good good. We get there on 11th Feb, so hopefully there'll be a fair bit of snow dumped in the next couple of weeks.

Stoo, we stayed at the Perun last year. You tried the outdoor pool yet? Amazing. I also recommend the full body massage (was about £10 last year). Enjoy
