Invest In A Pair Of Walkie Talkies

To stay in touch with friends/children when on the mountains. No expensive mobile phone bills when you get back and you can even use them between different hotels!

Make sure you get at least 5 mile radius as this will give a stronger signal if your contacts are on the other side of the mountain.

Some good offers on E Bay!

re: Invest In A Pair Of Walkie Talkies

I have a had a pair of walkie talkies for a few years now but find that unless I have good line of sight with them then they are next to useless. I have been looking into a more powerful model but that seems to mean that I have to buy a licence which i'm not keen on?! As long as they operate on the PMR446 frequency I won't need a licence but trying to find a powerful enough model that operates on that frequency is proving to be pretty difficult.

re: Invest In A Pair Of Walkie Talkies

I've always had the BT freeway ones, I think they are a 4 mile radius and they have worked fine on pretty much all of Snezhanka Mountain with the exception of bottom of Stoikite runs across to Studenets.
It makes keeping in touch with(and finding) the children so much easier. We have the PTT option and headsets so you don't have to mess about getting them out of your pockets.

Pete with over 50 kids to look after on the slopes we invested in four good walkie talkies five years ago. We stopped using them in Bulgaria because of signal difficulties and now use mobile phones with Bulgarian sims. Far better and more reliable means of communication if returning to Bulgaria year on year.

Blimey, I struggle with 3!!
I did ask Amanda at the tourist office if she would be able to stock BG sim cards to sell to tourists. Be great if she could.

re: Invest In A Pair Of Walkie Talkies

I bought walkie talkies in Lidl last year and we used them in Bansko. Never had a problem from mid station up. They are handy if you plan to meet each other for lunch. Sometimes (in Bansko) there could be over 500 people heading for lunch at mid station, so they are handy if you plan to meet people for lunch. I paid €25 for the pair, and as I said never had any problems.

You can also have a bit of fun scanning the channels and listening to other peoples conversations!!!!
