I've read the bits about the grand opening of Bansko yesterday but if you go to the snow cover report it states that only one lift (the main one up) is open and none of the pistes are open. Is this the actual situation on the ground, so to speak. I've boarded the Alps and Canada many times but have not been to Bulgaria before, and never this early in the season. We go out this Friday (23rd) so it would be nice to know the place is actually open. I've read the reports about all the snow the region has had and Bansko seems to have a reasonable base, but if anyone is out there or has (reliable) info as to the actual situation then please feel free to comment. And as per earlier posts I will be on my own on the slopes so come say hello (light blue jacket, old Ride Timeless stick), that is of course dependant on the foregoing. All the best John.
John Im sure you will be fine. Bansko are pretty switched on.
Eventhough the official opening was this week, I think that the proper first week that lots of tourists arrive will be your week.
Cheers for the replies. I guess that from the above that when the volume of visitors cranks up so will some of the lifts. Nice to here the snows so good too, they've forecast light snow for most of the week, off and on, so with any luck there will be plenty to go at. We're stopping at the Bisev (small hotel near the old town), does anyone have any info: street location, comments etc.....and are there any decent bars/food close by? All the best John.
