FIRST THE BAD NEWS.

We stayed at the Breza, The bed was broken, and we had to sleep on the floor the first night as the management insisted there was no one to fix it until the morning. The loo leaked all over the bathroom floor, that also could not be fixed until the morning, we had to use the kids bathroom. On the second day we had to remind them three times that they promised to fix the problems, 6pm that evening they told me there was no one to do the repairs as the handy man had gone home, so it would be fixed the next day. Thats when I went into orbit, They allocated us another room within 5 minutes. Not too much better, but at least there was a bed to sleep on and a loo we could use. We couldn't close the curtains because there was only one, and the ceiling flaked constantly where there had been a leak. The food was appalling, I was told it was Bulgarian, but I've been to Bulgaria before and stayed with Bulgarians and was never given food such as this. If your staying at the Breza, take extra money for eating out.

NOW THE GOOD NEWS.

The bar at the Breza is great, Zac the barman really looked after us, He is a mine of information and has a wicked sense of humour. He plays music and videos for the kids, and the older ones play pool prior to hitting the Buz Bar. Our boys are 17 and 15 and they loved Zac's bar.

Get to the ski school early on the first day to pick up your ski equipment else your left with the rubbish. You can hire lockers at the ski hire shop behind the gondular to leave your shoes, so you don't have to walk back and forth to the hotel in you ski boots.

The instructors are great, really friendly and very helpful. Gergio Rangelov was brilliant, he showed us the best places to eat Bulgarian food, introduced us to fried cheese, mish mash, and hot chocolate with brandy. We ate as a group at the Eagles Rock most lunch times, tomato or bean soup with toasted bread and a hot drink for 6 lev, enough to fill you but not weigh you down for the afternoon.

Because the food was so bad at our hotel we ate out every evening. The Blue does a wonderful beef steak, The lamb is out of this world and the chicken a la blue is sensational, we spent around 60-70 lev for 4 of us including several drinks. Francos Pizza's are not bad but the pizza place on the top of the main street just below the do-nut stand is fantastic 4 pizzas 4 alcholic drinks, plus 4 brandies for 35 lev. Mammacitas wine tasting evening was a night to remember we went with the tour operator, 8 glasses of wine and a plate of bar-b-qued meats, with a bottle of wine of your choice to take home.

We met loads of great people, Georgio our instructor and his girlfiend Sonja, Mary and Gordon, Pat and Nicola, Rob, Cynthia and Estelle, Anna and Arthur, Jeff, James, Sean, Greg, James 2, Lisa, Cathy, Steve and Linda.

When you buy drinks they have two sizes, British and Bulgarian, Bulgarians are poured until you ask them to stop... Beware

The skiing was wonderful, gentle or sheer slopes which ever takes your fancy. Some instructors will video your efforts if you ask them to.

We didn't see any ladies of the night, and only once did we see beggars, the door keepers who invite you into the restaurants are genuine and will laugh and joke with you, they really want you to enjoy yourselves in their establishment.

WOULD WE GO BACK?

OH YES! hopefully for Christmas, this time at the Rila studios, compared to the Breza they are real luxury.
