Got Back Saturday Night from a week skiing in bansko..
Slopes were Good, Could'nt Fault them! Pitty though towards end of the week there was alot of Ice and I saw Many Accidents up on the slopes.. They Really Need a Good snow fall!
We even Found a little pub that Sold a Pint of Beer for just 1Lev.. Crazy Prices, thats more or less 40p!!
The Resort itself isnt the best theres plenty of building work throughout, but I mean it didnt bother us the slightest it just didnt make the place ...

I'd Give Bansko another 5 Years and it will or should be Top Notch Much more expensive up the slopes than in the square its self. Stayed in Gardenia, Lovely Hotel but Staff are Miserable.
I personally Wouldnt Hurry Back to Bulgarai straight away, I love My Austria! Sofia Airport is a dive basically, only 1 duty free shop was open and a little cafe. Poor!
Ohh yea we had cheaper boots and ski hire in a shop out there than doing it throught the Companies, Thomsons etc.
with what I have heard on here you want to think yourself lucky you flew into sofia, plodiv is suppose to be really bad, will let you know in three weeks.
Got backfrom bankso myself Saturday - in Sofia airport I paid 36 levs for two packets of crisps and three cokes - what a rip off but they know they can do it cos its the only coffee/refreshmen place there. Overall bansko was a big disappointment and i am afraid that my love affair with bulgaria is over - its France or Austria for me and it will probably be cheaper!!!!
I would agree the Airport Bar/Cafe may be a rip off, but ain't everywhere on the piste in France and Austria going to charge you 2-3 quid/euro for a coke in oppose to 2-3 lvs.
As you spend more time on the piste than at the airport (I hope) then Bansko is still going to be better value for money!
I agree ace, My holiday is costing me half what Les Arcs cost me a few years ago. Bulgaria beats most winter resorts for value for money. Buy your coke in the supermarket!
Well I can only comment on prices I have been told, The Mrs brother stayed in the Alps and a Beer in the pub at night cost 10 Euros which is around £7.40 a pint.....
That was the average price, the cheapest was still 8 Euros which was £6.
Now Bansko - I went in Aug07 & 06 and the cost of a beer ranged from 0.8 - 2.5lev which is a price range of £0.30 - £0.92. I didnt try a beer at the Kimpinski so I guss that would be a lot more but this is the price ranges I experiancesd over a period ...

The other thing rtn tfr to the airport is for 4 people £105 which given the 180miles (5-6hrs) total distance seems an ok price. Foodas stated in other threads clearly just like in the UK if you ate Lobster every meal its going to be expensive whereas if you ate only a starter it would be cheap. However Im a big lad 17 stone and I am really stuffed after a starter & main so desert is never needed, starters range from 1-3levs and Mains 4-10 levs so assuming what I experianced as the most pricy Id not be spending more than 13levs for an evening meal then say add in 7 pints of beer at 2levs so a total of 27lev tip 3 lev total 30 lev thats £10 for a belly of food & drink. Note I even eat at Mehanas which dont have english menus or english speaking staff yet have always managed to get the food Im after.
I think what you may find here and other sites is that people who have a vested interest (i.e. property owners & maybe locals who have a business) will say that its not true and some who have not enjoyed their holiday will say the opposite.
To clarify my position - I am an owner, take that as you may on my views - but the above is 100% true. The beerfestival Aug 2007 was incredible and drinks there were fantastically cheap. We always eat in different Mehanas (unless really hungry and in a rush) and walk around you can easily see the menus and also sometimes we just sit in a place or a nice drink and just check out the menu if it looks ok we may stay there or try it another time.
