Hey Folks,
Just got back from Borovets on Saturday so I thought I'd post a message for people who are just about to head out there themselves.
It was our first time skiing in Bulgaria and I have to say that the slopes were brilliant, with loads of snow cover and plenty of variety to suit everyone's ability, although some of the green runs linking the different pistes are very long and very flat. There was a continous dusting of powder while we were there but the visibility on some days, especially at the top of the gondola, made it virtually impossible to ski. To their credit, they kept the lifts running throughout so the choice was yours and we didn't hang around the lower slopes as it was too busy with beginner classes. Get up early for the first gondola and you'll practically have the entire mountain to yourself until about 1030.
We stayed at the Samakov and the rooms and the facilities in the hotel were great considering the cost of the holiday. The food was terrible in the evenings but the sing-along musical entertainment almost made up for it. Eating and drinking out was a lot more expensive than we anticipated but head to The Blue or Katy's Pub for great food, friendly service and reasonable prices. They don't grit any of the roads either so be prepared for some spills when navigating the ice after a few bevvies.
Overal though it was a great skiing holiday at a good price.
