Just back from Bansko.. where to next?

Hi all!! just got back from my first skiing trip ever to Bansko had lots of fun! We took the 6 day lessons package with Crystal ski and although there was no new snow, we managed to ski as we were in the beginner class. The instructor was very good, and she took us on number 6 and 4 on 2nd last day and i was so scared i just fell down it, and then we went again on the last day when i just about managed it. Hi all!! just got back from my first skiing trip ever to Bansko had lots of fun! That was the only other run we did apart from the ski road, as we spent the first 3 days just learning on the nursery slopes. Apparently all the other blue runs are even harder than 6, and i struggled with 6 itself. my husband tried to go down 3 as he was feeling more confident as he has been once 10 years ago and did number 6 about 10 times, but he said it was really really steep and just fell down lots of times and then had to be helped by mountain rescue the rest of the way.

It seemed as though the blue runs were of varying difficulty and our instructor said that 6 and 4 were the easiest - if that is the case, then i dont think i would have been able to do any of the others which makes me wonder if bansko really is the ideal place for complete beginners, or if we werent taught fast enough, or if im just a big fat scaredy cat!

We had a great time and want to go again next year but want to go somewhere that has a greater number of shallower runs where we can practice and get confident with the technique yet not have to go on the same run all the time. I was wondering if borovets or pamporovo are better suited - can anyone advise?
Or perhaps any other resorts not in bulgaria? I have heard andorra is good for beginners?

Thanks!

I have skied in lots of resorts and, assuming good snow, Pamps is excellent for what you're looking for. Borovets may well be too but I've not been there so can't comment. France is also excellent but v expensive for beginners at current exchnage rates. Maybe Pamps next year then move to bigger resorts when it's worthwhile.

6 and 4 the easiest!!!! think your instructor was pushing you a little too much...for a start 6 & 4 are both steep reds. there are some good blues for beginners in bansko...10 seems popular then moving onto 5 which has a little bit of a red mid way down. then i woud suggest 11 and 3 when you have cracked 10 and 5 . only then try 6 and 4. after that move onto the black 9. when your ok with that, try the two blacks down from mid station. i would say steeper than tomba with more ice to cope ...

Banskoboy - on the map they are blues - i think she said they have been recently downgraded. But my husband was able to do 6 and 4 vry easily yet he went to try 3 and found it way too steep. He couldnt try 10 as it was closed due to the rocks and mud, but we heard it was similar to 6 and 4 with more flatter bits in between. i found 4 bit ok - it was still a bit challenging but it was the initial 6 part that was very steep!

Josh, do you think there would be enough in pamporovo to keep us ...

If you are at the level you mentioned in the 1st post then yes, most definitely.

I think what you did was go up the 6 man lift from the left of the gondola station. get to top of lift then go down the flat bit for 100 yrds then turn left down the last bit of 6 and 4 which are both blue and heavily used by ski school. those 2 runs start higher up the mountain where they are both reds. 6 was even used during the recent mens world cup and if you had of gone down there, you would have known about it. sorry for the confusion.

yeah sorry that is the bit we went on - but i found the first bit (6) of that really steep! I did it just about, but i was really scared! :-s so if all the other blues are worse than that, i must be really rubbish!
