Hi all,
Just arrived back from Bansko this morning. Had a great week, enough snow to ski but ice and the last couple of days slush is a problem. Was really hot all week. Gondola closed yesterday due to strong winds - so missed out on our last day skiing . Taxi's were taking people up the mountain at a cost of 50levs as some lifts up the top were open.
Didn't venture up to the top coz was told by instructors slopes were bad - tree stumps and rocks showing through. Skied reds 6,7,8 and blues 6,4 and 1. Skied down the ski road most evenings - again a bit icy and slushy in places.
Afraid to say it didn't look like it would snow at all, blue skies all week and some rain in resort on Fri. But we know how fast thiings can change in the mountains.
Stayed in the Mura and it was a really nice hotel, very clean and good facilities (sauna, steam room, jacuzzi and cheap massages). Although breakfast wasn't amazing. Also used the pool at the Bansko next door which was nice.
Did a day trip to the Rila monastery - was ok. Would've preferred to stay skiing though.
Nightlife is great and food really good, so cheap it's unreal, 3 course meal with drinks for 2, £15.
Obviously lots of building work about so it's quite dusty in resort at the mo and smokey sometimes too, but it doesn't take away that Bansko is a lovely place. Only problem I'd say is that there isn't much to do if you can't ski.
Thanks for info. Am going to Bansko on Tuesday.
Can you tell me if you need local currency ( lev ) or does everywhere take euros.
Also have not yet booked ski package ( skis/boots/lift pass/ski school).Do you know if it easy to do over there or should I try to pre-book here if I have time
Yes you need local currency, they are not going over to euros for another 2 years or so. Ski package is easy to book when you arrive. There is a place at the lift station.
That was per couple. But again it depends were you go, you can eat cheaper, with many main meals being 7 levs which is about £2.50 maybe? Main meals vary and can go up to 20 levs, really depends what you want. Obviously it's a bit more on the mountain. Beer is still cheap, about 1.20/1.40 levs on the main street.
