re: Just back from Bansko

OK, not my post but to answer some of the questions above. Yes Bansko is better than Boro (unless you are a group of lads looking for strip bars on a stag do!).

The Perun is fantastic - great food (breakfast - we ate out in the evenings), helpful staff, excellent facilities - this year I'm on a real shoestring budget but next year I'll be back at the Perun.

Mornin y'all

Just woke up from getting back from Bansko last night (Gatwick to Cardiff at 3am in the morning not my cup of tea - yawn).

I've posted a few updates over last week and we also stayed at the Perun (do a search on author Andy or Andy P and you'll find them) but here's a quick summary:

- lift passes are available for the day - best to check before buying about where you can go (don't want to be stuck up the mountain without skis if ski-ing is the only way down!)

- if your in the Ulen Ski school suss out the goup you're in after the first day's lesson. if you're being held back cos some of the group are really beginners in an intermediate group then (nicely) ask to move groups - it's your money and you want to learn don't you?
- on the first day (Sunday) get to the gondola as early as you can. It's chaos in the fitting rooms (Thomson/Crystal/neilson have marquees behind the gondola station - opens 0830 - miss brekkie if you need to, you can always get something on the mountain).
- latter days are less chaotic but it does take up to 40 mins to get your equipment then get from
bottom to top of mountain and the meeting point for lessons.
- queues are a bit of a free for all. For the 4 man lifts keep to the left, for some reason that moves quicker !
- getting back to Bansko is quicker via ski road if your a reasonable skier - 20 mins tops. DON'T try it if your completely new and had 1 lesson. My overconfident duaghter tried that despite my protests and she had to hold on to me and "piggy" down - took bloomin ages Confused
- Perun. very good facilities - sauna, jacuzzi, steam room and pool all free. Extra for massages/solarium.
- They have hairdryers, robes and towels in room and changed daily. Be careful of their slippers in the pool area - lethal when wet, very slippy! No irons though so take you own if you really are inclined
- Food is perfectly acceptable and a reasonable selection. We ate out a couple of times - do have a shop around the old town for a mexhana - we paid around a tenner a head for a two course meal inc. 4 bottles of wine, great value.

We loved Bansko - snowfall towards end of last week massively improved conditions and topped off a hugely enjoyable week. We'll be back...
