We went to Borovets last New Year and despite a terrible lack of snow, we (1 advanced skier, 1 advanced snow boarder and 2 beginner children) had a really good time. The skiing wasn't great but we loved the place and the people and we took a gamble on going back in the hope that conditions would be better this year.

Although there's another snow shortage, things were better this year and the children have come back as fairly proficient little skiers, while we skied at least 4 hours a day every day (only limited by having to collect the children from ski school).
The variety of skiing was virtually non-existent but it didn't hold us back. We spent 2 days going up and down the Martinovi chair (in front of the Rila) and the other days we bussed or taxied over to Yastrebets where conditions were fine.
The Bulgarian people are lovely and so very child friendly. We used to be a seasonal workers and have worked in Val d'Isere, St Anton and Verbier - all fabulous resorts, but full of snobs, poor customer service and outrageous pricing.
Will we go back to Borovets? Yes. But next year if we go at New Year it will be a last minute booking, snow dependent.
Would we recommend Borovets? Yes. In the end you get what you pay for. If I were a die hard - ski from first lift to last lift - skier then Borovets wouldn't be the place for me. But I'm not and for a family it's a great place.

Ps to all you doom and gloom merchants who put Borovets down did u hear Alsion's comments about other resorts!
Am so glad to here in your report that you had a good time. Myself and son are complete beginners and heading out on Saturday too. Am really looking forward to it now, especially as it seems I was worrying about nothing with the weather and weather I was even going to get in any skiing at all. Di.
Alison, we have also just returned from Borovets, Great Place, Great People, Great Prices, just a shame about the snow conditions - we also would go back Ive heard March is more Snow Sure
