Just returned from borovets,
Had a great time, found the locals (mostly) to be polite and curteous, although the constant nagging to enter their premisis was annoying to say the least.
Snow conditions were very poor by the end of the week due to the weather being above freezing all week and on some days the temprature was 8* and very windy so the gondola was closed to the top station, this meant that everyone had to ski on the lower slopes and hence the queues were very very long, ...

Snow conditions were very poor by the end of the week due to the weather being above freezing all week and on some days the temprature was 8* and very windy so the gondola was closed to the top station, this meant that everyone had to ski on the lower slopes and hence the queues were very very long, sometimes we had to queue for up to 45 mins to ski for 1 min, sometimes the queues were 2 abreast with the locals pushing in almost causing riots. It even rained on one night.
On the slope outside the rila hotel, there were people taking photos and then pestering you to buy them.
In the rila hotel, we had some items stolen from our rooms, nothing valuble (shampoo, cosmetics etc). My wife works for a cosmetics company here in the uk and took some sachets (samples) that have only just been developed and not on the market yet, they went missing from our bathroom, only to be found on sale in a shop in the resort (cheeky egh), so be careful with your valubles.
The food in the rila was ok, same standard as you would find in most package holiday hotels throughout europe, although warm and not hot. there are a few resteraunts in the resort which serve excellent food, the alpin hotel in particular, which is one of the best resteraunts that we have eaten in, it took us an hour to read the menu and the food was brilliant, we choose starters ,maincourse and dessert, loads of drinks, extra's and still couldnt spend 40 quid between 4 of us.Huge portions meant that we left half of the food also.
The swimming pool and jaccuzi are free for guests staying at the rila hotel, which was a nice touch after skiing all day. A one hour massarge costs 20 quid and gets rid of the aches and pains ( according to the wife. The instructors are very good and stay with you all day, The skis and boots have been renewed this season.
The buzz bar was excellent, we were told on this board that children were allowed into the buzz bar and rila nightclub, but they are not. the rila nightclub all week was empty, about 20 - 30 people in a club that holds about 400. While my wife had an early night, I was approched by 3 prostitutes, but when I said iI was'nt interested they went away. The erotic bars in the resort are nothing more than somewhere for the prostitutes to hang out and ply their trade. no charge to get into any of the bars or nightclubs and they are all open untill the last person leaves.
Lots of copies of rolex watches selling for 18lev, buy 3 get 1 free, they do work and they look good. bought 6 to bring home LOL Lots of skiing gear in the resort much much cheaper than back home, you can buy boots, try them and if you dont like them, you can take them back.
Night skiing was the best option if you wanted not to queue with the slopes very quiet, which costs about 18lev from 5 til 10, you are not allowed to keep your boots and skis after 5 oclock, you have to return them to the depot. the last day (friday), night skiing is not allowed if you have rented your equipment.
The duty free in Sofia airport was brilliant, Pall mall cigarettes about a fiver for 200 and all other brands about a tenner.
All in all, we all enjoyed our holiday, dont know if we will go back but the value for money was excellent.
