Just back from Borovets. Balkan Holidays 13:00ish flight into Gatwick.
Seen more precipitation in last three hours then in last week in Borovets!
Day time temperature in resort up to +7 Centigrade. Night time down to freezing.
Runs in resort slushy, with ice patches, by the end of the day. There is also some earth showing through.
Top of Gondola, down to halfway below mid-station OK. Below that same as resort.
Track leading to four man lift on Yastrebets very very icy.

Flight OK. In flight meal still a roll, slice of cheese, two slices of meat and a chocolate bar. This time aircraft was Tupolev jet. Mind your head when boarding if you’re over 4 foot tall. Use the toilet before you get on the plane, as it’s apparently a bucket and chuck it! Don’t worry about the noise, it gets very quiet when airbourne (too quiet for some). As the guy sat next to me said “this plane’s not crashed in the last 25 years, so why should today be any different!”
Exchange rate in Borovets is 2.73 Lev to the pound, Crown exchange. Found worse, 2.28.
19 Levs buys you a pizza and two pints in Joys by the Gondola.
19 Levs also buys a small bottle of beer, two Brandy + hot chocolates and one Rum + hot chocolate in a bar above the Boro Sports Ski Depot.
Best Bulgarian food The Green King opposite Gondola. The owner explains what each dish is in English. Try the Hunters Chicken or the Potted Kebab (but blow the flames out first).
If you want a quite drink in front of a log fire then the Avalanche bar is the place.
There seems to be a lot more people trying to get you to go into their bars. The guy outside Mama-Mia’s might have more luck if he didn’t blow snot out of his nose and or pick it whilst he’s shouting at you to come in!
Rila Hotel. Take a travel plug adapter with a razor adapter, or a separate razor adapter as there’s no razor socket. Also suggest taking a couple of loo rolls, if you’ve got the space. The food is Bulgarian and chips. Don’t look at it, or read what it is, just eat it! Even the battered cauliflower was OK. Plenty of food. Fried breakfast, cereal, fruit, rolls, bread, toast, honey, jam etc. Evening meal soup, salad, fish, meat, vegetarian, cake, fruit.
Met people who’d been to Bankso at Sofia Airport. They said it snowed there every night last week. The snow is the best they’ve ever seen.
Ellie, package delivered to Rilla Ski School office.
Glad you had a good time. Was in Boro on the 29th Jan - stayed at the Rila. It snowed all week and we had a brill time. Have just booked for next year. We may have had more snow in England then than in Boro last week???
Thanks for the report, we're on our way 5th March, last there Feb 2002. Sounds like a top up of snow is due! Where's the Crown Exchange, is it the one under Mama Mia's?
I take it a 6'5" you cracked your head as you boarded the plane then!!
Sounds like the snow wasn't quite as good as we have been led to believe on here I hope it didn't spoil your holiday. It would seem you tested out more bars this year - did you have to miss a day due to a hangover?
What were the queues like it not being the main half term week? Were they shorter or was it still just as busy? Shorter I hope bearing in mind all the lifts are up and running this ...

Did you not bump into Krassi then? I had rung him to say you were coming out last week. I'll give him a call one evening this week just to check he got your delivery. Thanks for doing that for us.
Simon is keen to try somewhere different next year as of course we have only ever been to Borovets. Sounds like it is still quite good value for money if you don't have to go in half term
No, I ducked. Did mange to smack my forehead into the snow trying to impress the 17 year old blonde in our class! She skied down to Sue and told her I'd fallen over and was shaking. Sue said "And. If he thinks I'm going back up to the slope to sort him out he can think again" to much laughter from the rest of the group.
Snow not as good as last year, but still OK. No hangovers.

What Queues? The only queue was for the Gondala, but we just caught the bus upto the four man on the Gondala mountain and skied that lift till lunch time.
No we didn't see Krassi. We just left the stuff in the Rila Office.
Does Mr T fancy Serbia or Romania? If so you can let us know how you get on!
