Just returned from a week at the Samokov 2/1 - 9/1.This is the 4th time that we have gone to Borovets on the 2nd Jan.Disapointing arriving at resort with no snow on sat, however, it snowed that evening with about 6 inches on Wed. Unfortunately Thursday it rained.Although many of the pistes were closed,we managed to ski all 6 days, mainly from the top of the Gondala. Conditions were quite icy, apart from Wednesday and very patchy in places.
The Samakov was in a good position, just by the gongala, and the food was ok..ish. It was lovely to relax in the cold pool after skiing each day and we also enjoyed the bowling alley (which swerves to the left), pool at 4 levs per half hour and the rifle range.
Highlight of the week was Wed when there was thick snow and arriving at the Yastabrets hotel for a hot chocolate, were provided with white slippers by the doorman!
Although the trip would of been completely different had the conditions been better, we made the most of our holiday and still had fun.
I booked a year in advance for this trip, as before.
I will still consider Borovets for future trips, however, in future, may choose to go beginning of Feb or book a last minute deal
