We stayed at the Rila from Boxing Day to 2nd Jan - had a fab time all 21 of us! Some of us were beginners and some more advanced - the older boys got a little bored in the beginners class and advanced themselves onto the red runs pretty soon. The instructors were very patient in my opinion, well the 2 I had experience of.

The Rila was OK, we stayed in the Studios with a tiny kitchenette equipped with 4 cups and saucers and a small pan for boiling water and a fridge - I took teabags, milk and sugar - so I had a lovely cuppa every morning because you'll not get one in the resturant, but coffee OK.
Food was OK too, the salad bar was better than the 'hot'
food - the reveiws are all right - the food is luke warm - no problems at breakfast though, we enjoyed those. Some days are better than others - but it's quite cheap to eat out - we ate at the bar across to the right of the Rila - next to La Bomba - very nice. We also had a steak at the Red Lion. The Black Cat is very good too lunch and dinner. There are no hairdryers in the rooms, we asked at the reception, and they told us there are only 2 in the hotel you can rent, but one was broken !! We found one in the changing room in the Swimming Pool - so take your own. Towels changed everyday, there are also towels for the swimming pool. Massages good and cheap.
Hope this helps anyone thinking of going to Borovets, we will definately be returning - fantastic time, and friendly people.
Staying at the Riula in March and will be there for paddys day. Is there an Irish bar in the Rila? First choice brochure says there is.
Reading the other posts the food is ok but eating out is cheap and fun and that's before you mention beer!!!!
Looking forward to the trip, never been to Bulgaria before but been skiing to Canada and europe a couple of times.
Cheers, Brian
