Hi all - I just got back this morning from Borovets - first ski trip for myself. Travelled from Cardiff with Balkan. We were on allocated-on-arrival and were placed in the Zodiac Hotel - lovely hotel and would reccommend to all. Weather and skiing was fantastic - only snowed once (Weds) but dumped about 25cm overnight which improved conditions considerably - was getting pretty icy. Yesterday the ice was showing through again, especially where snowboarders had been! Our instructor (Rumiana) was very wary of the ice - with good reason as we saw a number of crashes on the icy patches, resulting in broken limbs etc.

We didn't get to go to the top of the gondola due to high winds from Weds onwards, which was a pity. Consequently the beginner slopes and the green run down from the chair lift were pretty busy. Watch out for the ice by the shops alongside the Rila - met a guy who fell and broke his ankle on his 2nd day!

If you're off this weekend take loads of layers - our instructor said she'll be wearing 2 ski jackets on top of her usual layers since it's going to be FREEZING next week - minus 20 at resort level!!!

One essential apres ski activity - apart from the obvious drinking of course! - buy a bumboard each and take them as high as you dare! Just remember to wear your goggles and cover your face!!!
