We had a great week and have definitely got the bug to ski again as this was our first experience. Ski center 2 ski school was excellent, although it did take up most of the day time, but our instructor Aty was very experienced and patient making sure that all got the most from her. We had a great week and have definitely got the bug to ski again as this was our first experience. Ski center 2 ski school was excellent, although it did take up most of the day time, but our instructor Aty was very experienced and patient making sure that all got the most from her. The others in the group were a good laugh and I would certainly recommend any new skiers to consider using the ski school, there is normally around 12 in a group and it is great to be with others that are in the same positon as you, it helps to have someone to laugh with when you fall over!
The ski runs were disappointing because of the lack of snow, at the beginning of the week things were not too bad but the green run became a nightmare with grass patches, tarmac and lots of stones (but I've been told that having learned to ski in such conditions, means that I will be able to ski almost anywhere). I just hope that it snows long and hard in the next few days or there will be nothing to ski on, even the other runs are suffering.
The Hotel Pamporovo was better than expected, the reception area is very grand but the rooms are a little worn, but this is Bulgaria so it will take many years for them to catch up with other European countries. The food was acceptable, we learned to find something we liked for breakfast, but the evening meals had a varied choice, absolutely excellent salads, several hot dishes and a selection of cake type deserts.
Drinks in the hotel were a similar cost to the UK, but the Bowling Bar was more expensive than the Irish Bar. Generally we found the cost of food etc to be similar to the UK and not the low cost that we had been lead to believe. Food on the slopes was more expensive than in the town but they did have a captive audience.
Anyone going must try the hot chocolate with brandy and the hot wine - (sound like an alcoholic don't I)!
All in all a good holiday, most of the locals are friendly and even those that don't look so, normally smile if you make an effort with them.
I skied hard every day, as you do and came home heavier???!!! Then it dawned on me...it was the hot choc and Bailey's that I had on several occasions. Yummy but a whole day's calories in every shot.
Still can't wait for the next holiday though...will try to shed a few pounds in preparation next time!
