Just back from bansko

Arrived back from bansko and must say I was pleasantly surprised having read all the negative reports before going.Having been to borovets for the last 5 years the experience is totaly different as you have to search out the apre-ski and nightlife but it is there. We did not experience any queues and the runs were very well groomed which made the early morning skiing very good.Prices for food /drinks on the mountain were reasonable and the selection available was good. While there was still a good amount of snow up the mountain if it does not snow again soon it will start to thin but at least they use the snow cannons at every oppourtunity to keep the snow as good as they can. There is a lot of building going on but it did not affect our holiday as we were either in the town or on the slopes.Would reccomend the Hotel Lion as we found it very good.My feeling is that unless Boro puts in the same amount of investment regarding the lifts and slopes anyone trying Bansko will think it a better resort for skiing.I am a Boro fan but If I only manage one holiday next year as against being able to do both this year I will choose Bansko. If you have any questions I will try to answer them.

What else to do if little snow

Sounds great - I've never been to Bansko [or Bulgaria] before and will be travelling out with my 12 year old boy on April 1st. IF there is no or very little snow, what else can one do? We are staying at the Lion as well which sounds great and MUCH better than our pokey garret in Tignes last year.Any pointers would be good so we can stock up on walking boots etc.Cheers harris

re: Just back from bansko

Because of how the season is you may struggle with snow but last year they had some heavy snow beggining of april.Apart from that there is mountain biking/fishing/hunting and horse riding in the mountains.
If you have done any skiing the mountain is such that the slopes at the top which should still have snow will be OK to ski.Food in the lion is excellent and the rooms are well looked after.Bus every 15 mins to the gondola from the hotel

What ever the weather you have to make the most of it! But the snow cannons are out daily as its cold so they will keep the pistes groomed! Just have to be on the slopes early to benefit! Temperature is dropping so snow could come in the next week or so Fingers crossed!
