Just back yesterday

As ever had a great week in Pamporovo although feeling a lot better than in previous years ( getting older and more sensible).

Stayed in Snejanka apartments, 2 between 5 of us, absolutely superb. Lack a bit in some kitchenware but we managed.

In most bars prices much of a muchness, if you stick to local hooch not to bad, however imported stuff v expensive. I did find however that Hieneken was being sold at 6 lev a bottle in some places, same price as 4 years ago!!!!! the price of many ...

In most bars prices much of a muchness, if you stick to local hooch not to bad, however imported stuff v expensive. I did find however that Hieneken was being sold at 6 lev a bottle in some places, same price as 4 years ago!!!!! the price of many things has risen very slightly some others by a lot. Always going to happen but the exchange rate is really the killer had you been getting 4 lev to the pound things would still be very cheap.

Skiing was good at beginning of week however torrential rain took a serious toll in general. By saturday loads of bare patches, icey hard sore patches, slushy patches and big puddles. I would reckon without a good dump of snow and drop in temperatures things could get a bit dire on the slopes. I also found it quite disheartening the lack of preparation apparent on some off the runs in particular young trees and rubble. I do recall reading on here that the guy in charge of that side of things had been fired, if thats true then serves him right.

Finally the two fast food outlets (next door to each other)just along from White Hart, towards Snejanka, one does excetionally good burgers and the one with the Pizzas in the window does a brilliant kebab.........beware of the chilli sauce......even if you put it on yourself.

Three of us have been to Pamporovo on a number of ocassions over the years the other two were newbies.

GENERAL CONSENSUS.....WE'LL BE BACK

re: Just back yesterday

Hi
I also just got back yesterday. Would love to be still there. I had a great time.

I stayed in my parents apartment so can't say much about the hotels. I did pick up bits and pieces from people about certain hotels not being very good though.

Managed 9 out of 10 days skiing. The rain on Wed just went on and on and was very suprised to find any snow left come thursday.

I also just got back yesterday. Would love to be still there. I had a great time.

We found that it is still a cheap place to go skiing. On a friday, Sat and Sunday lift passes are a lot cheaper than during the week. Food on the moutain was much the same as previous years. We went to a traditional Bulgarian place to eat in the village which was a lot cheaper than other places and to be honest nicer food. Only thing which made it expensive was the exchange rate.

With regards to the Skiing, they really need some snow, very icey and puddles in places come saturday. Sunday morning it was raining hard when we left, so I would imagine the conditions would be even worse today.

My Bulgarian friend told me that all the administration of Pamps had been changed a week or two before I went out on the 29th Jan. I gather up until recently no snow machines were being used and when there had been snow the slopes were not being prepared properely. I have been told that when possible from now on, the snow machines are being used during the night to keep the slopes good and open. I know this is the case for one of the blue runs and the green run down from the mid-way station as it was good. The green run from the top was terrible and getting worse mainly ice and earth.

Some more information I picked up was that from next year the snow machines are going to be working full time from the start of the season so that hopefully the conditions will be great and even better with proper snow and hopefully there will be no need for people to worry about the lack of snow. Fingers crossed.

I also skied part of the new green run where I could. Managed to get 3/4 the way down the slopes before hitting ice and earth. It will be amazing when there is snow on all of it. I hope there will be snow machines put on the new runs otherwise the slopes wont be useable as the bottom is very low. The top of the runs was brillant and full of snow. The 6 man chair lift was very impresive a lot of money had been spent. Not expecting leather seats on a chair lift and covers.

I do understand that the money which is being invested on the new runs, snow machines and the new lift is private so hopefully this will makes things better and if they are wanting a return on their investment then the money will be spent to improve the skiing.

My skiing improved dramatically this year, I started on the green runs and by the second day was skiing the blue and reds. I had an instructor called Rosen who I would highly recomend. He had good english.

I am getting the feeling that things are improving in Pamps slowly but surely, which is a good sign. Hopefully the new administaion and new investers are going to make a big difference.

All in all another good holiday in Pamps. I hope to return next year.

I hope anyone who is going out has a good holiday.

I hope the above coments help.

Suzanne
