I have NEVER seen so much snow fall in Bansko in 24 hour period .. it started about 11am on Friday and when we left very late Saturday night it was STILL snowing heavily ..
The town is completely covered ... the first time I have ever seen snow in the village .. and up on the slopes ... well .. it beggars belief .... Simply AMAZING ....
So much powder and it's waist deep!!!
Even at the bottom of the ski road it was just passable because of all the snow ...
Hi everyone
WOW!!!
I have NEVER seen so much snow fall in Bansko in 24 hour period .. it started about 11am on Friday and when we left very late Saturday night it was STILL snowing heavily ..

So much powder and it's waist deep!!!
Even at the bottom of the ski road it was just passable because of all the snow ...
And to put the icing on the cake the place is EMPTY!!
No queues ... just straight on the Gondola and any chair lift on the mountain ... the place is deserted ..
Without a doubt anyone who has just arrived or going out next week ... don't fear at all .. there is enough snow to last right through the summer!!
The journey back to Sofia was a bit hairy though .... the roads were really snowy .. but the coach driver did a superb job getting us to the airport .. mind you it did take just over 4 hours without a stop!!
Anyway .. if you want to know anything else .. feel free to ask
OMG glad you got to enjoy the major dump a little! Hope it's like this next yr too, we are back in jan and hoping for this week in march 2010 so if it does that'll be fab!!!
Hi Funski, Glad you had a great trip, first year i'm not going out
Do you know the reasons why it's so empty this year...is it the prices?
How is Bansko looking generally...has all the building work continued, and is the place looking less like a building site as it all nears completion? I would hate to here that places have been left abandoned and unfinished!
We were out the same time, it wasn't totally empty, rather easy to get onto all the lifts. There were plenty of skiiers and boarders around. Always Mid March it gets a little quieter and some mountain hats close, but there were enough people to keep the atmosphere going.
Would I go back to Bulgaria next year - absolutely.
Well .. I think the place was empty on two accounts
1. End of the seaon
2. Credit Crunch
I did go for a wander around the town and I was pleasantly surprised to see many roads/pavements starting to look more like we are use to in the UK ..
Yes.. there is still a lot of building work to finish but the place, in general, looked much tidier.
I think a couple more seasons and it will look great ..
Speaking with our ski instructor he said that this year they are ...

Funski - i was there in Feb with the wife and kids and i absolutely agree with your comments. It is my 4th year of going to Bansko and this is the first year that i can say things are on the up and starting to look good.
Sorry battery was going in my laptop so had to rush what i was saying.
In my opinion things are definately on the up, alot more complexes looking finished and more bars and supermarkets to choose from.
We had a great time and the conditions were the best i have ever experienced (was in the alps in Jan and the snow in Bg was tons better - although The Alps was still amazing!)
