Hello all,
Hope this helps,
We stayed at the Hotel Bansko all last week 2 of us can ski 2 couldn't so they booked lessons..the hotel is very clean and warm with a fantastic pool and sauna, the food is typical to Bulgaria, lots of spiced meats, chicken, stews soups and rice dishes.. also vegatables, spuds salads and cheeses..all vey nice, nothing spectacular but as I said tpical to Bulgaria..so try it and enjoy.
The beer and wine in the hotels are all exellent very tasty costing about 4 or 5 Lev each but if you want it any cheeper go around the old town there are lots of Mehanas that do wonderful foods and the drinks are about 2 or 3 levs, if you get a chance go out on an organised Bulgarian culture night its very entertaining and very cheap, we went with the Balkan holidays rep "looney Lou" the crazy Geordie..it was good fun..so give it a try..at 16 levs you've got a meal plus drinks and entertainment..
If thats too much then the supermarket in the town centre sells a 4 litre box of red wine for 10 levs and the local beer is 2 levs for a 2 1/2 litre bottle..so all should be well.
And now to the main bit..snow..there is snow at Bansko mainly due to the snow cannons that are working all the time ..most of the runs are open, just a couple right at the top where there are no cannons..just a word of caution though..it is icy in places and you can very easily loose an edge..there were quite a few collisions because of this problem. our friends had lessons and the instructor was very patient and helpful, by the fourth day they were going down easy blues (very carefully). The easiest run and most used is the Bansko road that runs from the top of the gondolas all the way down to the bottom its a real good run but again be carefull due to the ice patches.
My advise is have a slow run down the runs you want and judge for yourself..don't just taz on down because you have experience I saw lots of people come a cropper due to this view.
We had a fantastic time..lots of skiing, drinking and eating, the people are friendly and just want you to have a memorable time..so go and enjoy..
Think peeps were getting too worried about not having fun, I was one of them but I am starting to relax with it all, at the end of the day it's a break and you just have to make the most of it.
I'm not going until the 18th Feb, so I'll just wait and see when we get there, plenty of time for things to change.
sorry you had such a bad experience, but don't tar all brits with the same brush, were not all lager louts..sadly this does happen with a new destination ..fortunately the idiots didn't venture down into the old town.. so we were away from it all..but thanks to Balkan I've found a place that I will go back to..and had a memorable time ..enjoying the Bulgarian culture as well as the skiing.
