I would really love to go this year I love my skiing and haven't been since 2006 New Year to France. We are now a family of 5 and have a 7 year old 2or3 year old (when we go) and a one year old. I would really like to know if there is any really good childcare and babycare in any of the resorts. I did have experience of the Rila nursery in Jan 04 and was not at all ...

Helen,

We only started skiing 5 years ago. Then our boys were 5 and 3. We first went to Borovets and stayed at the Rila. We loved the place. However the kindergarten was very limited, especially for the younger one, who spent most of his day in a basement room with other kids and disinterested carers.

Having said that they did get to have fun in the snow for a part of the day and with night time skiing at Boro they had a go using the kindergartens equipment free of charge.

The following year we went to bansko. The set up there was much better. The kindergarten is at the foot of the slopes at the main gondola stop and they have a purpose built kids area including escalator lifts etc. The actual nursery etc is attached to the gondola building and is very modern, light, and roomy. The staff seemed much better and professional.

Our boys, now 11 and 8 can both ski any run including blacks largely because of the help they had at Bansko kindergarten and the subsequent ski lessons at that resort.

re your youngest, I have seen babes in arms in bansko and there are facilities for them. A lot depends on how you are travelling. As Fraser says some tour operators differ but if independant I would trust Ulen who are the main company at bansko. In bansko no matter who you booked with they would have to use Ulen, but I think I am right in saying that in Boro it depends on which hotel and with which tour operator you are with.

In short, with respect to Boro, who we fell in love with first, I would pick Bansko for kids.

John

re: Kids care and nursery

We went skiing last year with our 3 & 1 year old girls. My wife was apalled one day with the Inghams ski school there were kids falling asleep on the snow, kids crying and been told to be quiet by the instructors. This made my wife cry our eldest never went back I taught her myself. Good job she went to xscape for lessons prior to going. Our youngest girl was in the Rila kindergarten and they were in there pushchairs all day. We dropped her off @ 09:00 and I came back @ 10:30 only to find ...

Our youngest girl was in the Rila kindergarten and they were in there pushchairs all day. We dropped her off @ 09:00 and I came back @ 10:30 only to find her strapped in the pushchair. I calmed her down & left and returned 1 hour later to find her in exactly the same place. Not a good experience don't do it. Spend more money and go to France / Austria.
