As promised, although a little late, due to exhaustion, a full and Frank report on last week in Pamperovo.
Let me start by saying that the Failsworth 40 had a fantastic Holiday and the Laughs from the Airport onwards just never seemed to stop.
We are a mixed ability and Ages Ski Party from Failsworth in Manchester( 18-50 + a couple of Youngsters)
This Group has built up over the last Seven Years, with this Years trip being the Largest Migration yet.
We met up with Pamperovo Pete whilst ...

We met up with Pamperovo Pete whilst in Resort and he asked me to post a Report on how i personally found things on my first trip to Bulgaria and Pamperovo in particular, the Good, the Bad and the Ugly, so here goes.
The Good
Short transfer time from Plovdiv
The Ski Instructors ( Nely was very good )
The Pamperovo Hotel in General ( apart from the Food )
The bus service to the lifts from hotel pamp
The White Hart Pub Steaks
The Marconi for Three hours after Skiing
BJs Happy Hour
Brilliant Atmosphere in Resort
The slopes on the couple of days they were pisted
The amount of Snow this Year
The Bad
The aeroflot arms refusing to open on the Plane
The very poor food in Hotel Pamperovo
The return journey from slopes to Hotel Pamp
Poor Hot Water Supply from 4pm - 8.00pm
The Power Cuts ( 1 night was very poor )
The Ugly
Being overcharged in every Mountain Lodge
Staff refusing to give change
Taxi drivers over charging
The hike in prices in general seems to have gone up 50 % on last year alone
The BELL SELLERS at the bottom of the lifts plague you everyday like timeshare salesmen
The general attitude in resort now seems to be to make a quick buck.
The archaic Ski hire equipment, if you did get Carver skis, they had ancient bindings and back loader Boots
Guys flogging Lottery tickets on the Mountain
The lack of information regarding Lift Closures ( 1 day had just the Three Man Chair open )
The lack of Piste Bashing until the Bulgarian National Holiday arrived.
The Roads in the Resort were Dangerous due to lack of Grit or Snowplough to clear them
Overall, we all had a Great Time, but we need to be realistic,
Bulgaria, is not the cheap Holiday we are used to anymore.
The attitude of the Locals, whilst still friendly, has changed.
Some of our Party were shocked by this change having been to Pamperovo Seven times previous.
i think the reason we had such a good time was down to ourselves as a group making the most of it, looking after each other on the slopes etc and going with the right attitude in the first place, not expecting it to be France, Austria, Italy, Canada etc.
Would i go again, Yes, but in the Hope that the small efforts required to make it unique again and a little bit of Customer Service are addressed.
In the next week, you can expect to see lots of Digital images from our Mob showing us having a Great time, and the meeting with Pamp Pete, so if you are due to go out soon, dont take my comments to Heart, just expect things to be a little different from your last visit, you will still have a fabulous time and you may find it different to me.
Stay Safe on the slopes ( we had one broken Knee cap and a twisted neck from our 40)

Thanks for that report. it seems times they are a changing! Heading off myself in March 1st time since 2001 so will be interesting to see. Looks like some of the old charm might well be go for good

I am not a rich man but we used the same mountain restaurant every day ( above Studenets station just above the tunnel, and we used to tip the same waiter and I actually found the prices coming down by the end of the week and also much more brandy in the Brandy chocolates, so were delighted with our service.

I am not a rich man but we used the same mountain restaurant every day ( above Studenets station just above the tunnel, and we used to tip the same waiter and I actually found the prices coming down by the end of the week and also much more brandy in the Brandy chocolates, so were delighted with our service.
Yes I think that all of the hotels ran out of hot water between the said times, I suppose that is a fact of life of everybody coming back from skiing, I used to dodge this as I would go swimming and go in the sauna, and return just in time for the excellent food in the dining room, there was always something that took my fancy. I had heard from other members of my group who were staying in the Pamporovo that the food was not up to scratch, but I have travelled throughout the world and found the food to be very good in the Perelik.
We actually befriended one of the Bell sellers (yes we did buy some bells) but Mr addidas as he introduced himself always greeted us with a smile every time we came down to the slope, he would help carry skis and bits and bobs - knowing he was not going to get another sale, he made our week with his happy smiling face, on one occasion he even took my daughter (9) back to the ski school from o/s the front of the building. Cannot wait to see him next year.
Not once whilst we were there were the pistes not bashed, the machines were buzzing about all over the place during the day.
We had quite a heavy snowfall whilst there and even though the roads were not cleared, they had been gritted and the buses and taxis had no problems, and even when we walked from the Perelik to the Pamporovo and back it was fine, you had to be a little careful, but with decent boots on No Probs.
We had new carving skis (Inghams) so did not have a problem there, but we also took our own boots, knowing that we may be getting older rear loaders, well happy with nice warm feet with no aches and pains.
Am I going again - certainly am (whoops) I have already booked for next Jan.
I am not pulling your thread to bits as you have been before, but am telling it like I have seen it, and for the newbies who have not been before I am sure you will enjoy it tremendously. You never know I may be putting the differences on next year.
