Leaving Skis/snowboards outside restaurants etc

Afternoon all

I have a read a few post on other forums about gear getting nicked when you are in a bar / restaurant during the day.

I have never bothered using a lock. What is everyones thoughts on this.

Do people use locks?

I'm also slightly concerned about this. This will be my first year with my own skis and poles, and they're my pride and joy!
Of course they'll be covered by my insurance if they are pilfered, but that's not really the point.
Nel, I notice you have a snowboard in your pic which will be more easier to lock (?)
I wonder what the easiest way to lock a set of skis round a post might be... hmm.

Hi Jo.

Yeah my snowboard is my pride and joy as well.

Could you not put the binding into the locked position (as if your boot was in it) and then pass the lock cable through there on both skis and then to the ski/board parking frame thing.

I guess it depends on your bindings really.

I've not heard of much going missing but that does not mean that it doesn't happen. Most people don't use locks there (in my experience) but then most of the gear is hired and numbered. Some of the places do have racks where things could be locked but not all of them. It will depend on where you are eating

I always lock mine in every country i visit, plus if you ski swapping one ski with some one is a good idea!

A tip I read was to never put your skis in a rack as a pair. Split them with your friends and place them some distance apart.

I've just got back from my 2nd visit to borovets in 2 months and to be homest my skis spent more time outside bars and restaurants than they did om my feet. And I had no issues whatsoever and heard no negative stories.

I was also concerned about this issue before I went, but by the end of the first day I wasn't bothered. Seems skiers r honest people.

Have fun!

No lock , no claim with insurance firms , and need police paper work , which is a pain in the ass to get , take a few pics also to show they are locked to back up insurance claim / police report too , even if hired , need same cover etc and pics etc etc
