Great for internediate & expert skiers. Beware the colour of the runs. Most reds are like blacks & blacks are like cliffs. Stick to Bulgaria for value for money. Any resort in the alps will rip you of.

re: Les Deux Alpes

Was there last year (actually Briancon) but had a day there and am going back this season for a week. Its high with a top of 3600m so the snow is superb. Busy but great lift system (the busiest route had a 8 man chair), lots of people, great range of slopes and if you're good - and I do mean very very good - you can have a tinkle on the unremittingly divine off piste, unpatrolled, mogul haven of La Grave on the other side of the mountain. If your buttocks can't clench quite that tight, you ...

If your buttocks can't clench quite that tight, you can hire a car (or even take the bus, this is not Bulgaria) and explore 5 resorts down to Briancon within an hours drive. A bit further to the Italian resorts and you'll get home 3 months later to unemployment, a family that won't speak to you and children who have starved to death. But it will have been well, well worth it.

Bulgaria-value for money my arse

Just check online there and you can get package holidays to les deux alps for cheaper than to any bulgarian resort. If you like bulgaria because its your preference and opinion thats fine but don't lie and say its better value for money and les deux alps will rip you off when this is simply not true.

re: Les Deux Alpes

Agree Jim the deals are cheap to most resorts but when your there the cost for food and drink etc is a lot more.
Went les deux alpes new year 2006/7 cost me £550 for 3 days without lift pass, went BG last new year and it cost £600 for a week with lift pass included.
Bulgaria does tend to be cheaper for me but then this doesnt make it better value for money as the resorts are smaller and less equiped although 2007/2008 was an amzing year for snow in borovets.

Unfortuantly 2006/2007 was a bad year for snow and only had the glacier to skid on, the runs are steep as the green run on the glacier came to as a bit of a shock to the beginer skiers that were with us.

The only thing that drove me mad was the time it took to get to the glacier but then new year is always busy and you expect to que.

Love to go back one day and hopefull catch it all open and with good snow not just ice at the top.

re: Les Deux Alpes

We have been going to Les 2 Alpes for the last two years. Previously we used ski in Pamporovo and Borovets. Two things made us choose Les 2 Alpes over Bulgaria.....guaranteed snow and a much cheaper holiday! To get the best price on accomodation contact the Tourist Board or Les 2 Alpes Voyages....don't get ripped off by UK travel agents prices. The down side of L2A is the expensive lift pass but we will be back there at Christmas. Incidently they have already had more than 50cm of snow, so ...

The down side of L2A is the expensive lift pass but we will be back there at Christmas. Incidently they have already had more than 50cm of snow, so its looking good for this winter. We have also been glacier skiing for the last 3 summers...thats probably the best time for beginners to learn to ski!
However we are hoping to be back in Pamporovo soon. We love the charm of the resort. Lets hope that Pamps gets a good covering of snow this winter.

Cheers for all that! Any ideas on the apres ski?? Been hearing mixed reports. We've been to bansko twice which was intereting with a few local nights out with the instrucor!! We went t Flaine last year which was dead at night but the skiing was unreal. Would quite like to find a happy medium.

re: Les Deux Alpes

Skied boro for the last 3 years and cant beleive how much the prices have gone up. Went to Valmeinier in march and couldnt beleive how reaonable the prices were. Knee deep fresh powder on piste while boro, lower down gets less snow year after year. You might pay a little more in the alps, but you get what you pay for with miles of pistes and plenty of the white stuff Very Happy
