Off to pamps in a few weeks (20th). have been boarding a couple of times before although I'm still guff. Have developed a real phobia about getting off and on the lifts on a board because I got my legs stuck under me on a lift in Andorra last year to the point where they almost snapped (the legs!). Ive also never got off without falling on my erse.
Hi SarahL
Have seen boarders unclip their back foot and on exit balance and paddle their board with the back foot until they are clear of the lift. Don`t know if this will help ?
I am not a boarder (upturned ironing board and all that)
You need to do a bit of gliding - basically you need to keep your lead foot in your binding and have your other foot out of the binding. You then put your free foot on your stomp pad and glide along like you would if you had both feet strapped in. You can also paddle along as Steve has said if you can't glide
I have only just managed the art and it is real easy once you work out that having your foot out of your binding is not that scary!!
I went through that fear of lifts and steep sudden drags. Being a regular i found it easier to get the seat on the far right. When you arrive at the top you can hold onto the seat easier when standing up. If you are a gooff, then the far left maybe easier.
Ride the board as if both feet are attached, until it comes to a stop, and hope there is not a group standing right at the exit blocking everyones way (usually skiers).

My problem is remebering to put the rear cup down, as the first time i went on a chair i busted the back off of my S3 bindings.
Don't worry about the lifts.
In most cases there's a small walk at the end of each lift before you can board, so it's as easy to carry the board up and just walk off at the other end. Our instructor was doing this as were most of the boarders.
The main three man lift is very busy at the top and I wouldn't fancy trying to dodge all the skiers anyway!
All chair lifts allow you to carry your board.... and the drag-lifts are nice and slow.... apart from one on the top mountain which is for extreme dra-lift experts only
