I have some questions for you very knowledgable people, who seem to know Borovets inside and out:
I'm a photographer so where would you say is the most scenic/beautiful part of the mountain?
Although hopefully we won't need it are there regular transfer options to Bansko? Might be nice to pop over there for a night.
Which hotel in Borovets has the nicest spa facilities or just the nicest rooms/restaurants?
Thanks so much! Out on 16th March, keeping everything crossed ...

In my opinion if it's mountains you wish to photograph then the view from the top of Bansko is best. You get a lot more peaks for your money there including the back of Musala. You are kind of facing the wrong way on Musala to get great photos although you can get a nice view of the peak next to Sofia, it's name escapes me. You can get some good shots up the top of the Musala pathway and over towards the avalanche but it might be safer when there is less snow, certainly easier to get to. A ...

A walker may contradict what I am saying and I stand corrected if that's the case. If it's open, take a drink at the stone hut, it hangs off the mountain a bit, you'll get some good shots from there.
I don't know what will be open when we get there but heading towards the Musala Pathway sounds like a good start! Bansko sounds good too. Any ideas on buses or transfers over to Bansko? I'm still toying with the idea of renting a car from the airport.
I'm not actually a local, I've just been there a lot. Somebody organised a small bus and driver so there were about 15 of us when we went to Bansko. Whilst I remember, the mountain that you see towards Sofia is Vitosha. You might want to try and get hold of people like Gerry or Kaz who are contributors on this forum. Gerry organised my trip but as he also has apartments and organises hiking trips during the summer, he might be able to help. There are other areas that might suit your ...

Gerry organised my trip but as he also has apartments and organises hiking trips during the summer, he might be able to help. There are other areas that might suit your photographic requirement like 7 lakes and this may be closer and easier to arrange. Other than that you might try contacting Balkan-pms or Hunters as they may be able to arrange things

re:Locals advice on Borovets
Hi Hannah, when you are here if you go up on the gondola you can walk over to the Musala hut which takes about an hour and on the way there are wonderful views to photograph. If you would like to walk down the Musala pathway which takes about two hours, it is very picturesque, you are following the river down through the valley and there are several water falls.

From the top gondola station you can see up to the top of Musala, the highest mountain on the Balkan peninsular, and in the other direction you are looking north across Bulgaria to the Stara Planina mountains. Just below you will see the town of Samokov and a bit beyond Lake Iskar which is the largest lake in Bulgaria being 15 km long.
Near to Borovets is Malyovitsa, only about 25 kms away, which is very beautiful and would be worth a visit. The link below shows the peak of Malyovitsa and you would enjoy the walk to the Malyovitsa hut which takes about an hour and there are good views on the way to photograph.
Another area which is very scenic is 7 Lakes this is about an hours drive from Borovets and would also be worth a visit. See link below. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Malyovitsa.JPG http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:18072010855.jpg
Thanks so much for the detailed advice! Can you normally snowboard over to the Musala hut or to any of the waterfalls if there is enough snow? I am out there in a fortnight so keeping my fingers crossed for more snow. Love the idea of the waterfalls, are they easy to find?

Hi Hannah,
In a season with good snow you can ski or board from the top of Markudjik 3 drag lift to the Musala hut, but we need a bit more snow at the moment.
We were skiing on Markudjik today and the views from the top of the chair lift are very good and I would think will give you good photo opportunities.
