Best is book direct with the owner of the hotel or the accomodation. When you have ticked majority of these with yes -thats the place--The real gem for you.
In General, just my opinion -Go to places untouched yet by brits for the best bargains, charming feel and best places, so search foreign sites without translation pages into english book as much possible before so you will have straight into slope experience without hastle from commission driven tour operators and reps .just straight onto the slopes to have 100% of what you have paid for.
You will have made by then your mind where to try and I any case I believe, it will be a better choice.Never go for one good for you reason only like price along ,drinks, etc.
cos if not true, you will feel very sorry at the end and have to wait for the next hol to correct it.
Easy job.

one ski resort i wud recommend in italy is livigno. You can ski up to 3000m and there is quite an extensive ski area, actually it is massive in comparison to Bulgarian resorts. Its also has a got a great a nightlife and is extremely cheap as it is duty free. I think you would find it the same price or even cheaper than bulgaria. The ski pass is actually cheaper than boro and bansko.

There are a few neagtives though, it is a long 4-5hour transfer from milan. In comparison to other alpine resorts, it is quite average, it does not have the ski-in ski-out accessabilty of some other alps resorts, and the ski area is also divided up with no connecting skiable link (a short bus ride across the resort instead). However, value for money is second to none and it is one of the cheapest resorts in the alps to access.
i believe you could ski here and pay the same price or less than you have been for bansko. The best thing you can do is shop around, i wud advice not booking a package holiday but doin everything individually, then you'll get some unbelieveable deals. If you do go package it still won't break the bank and as i said be the same price or cheaper as you've been paying in bansko. Hope that helps
