Would just like to comment on the accuracy of the earlier posting by Lord Lewis on the Failsworth 50s recent excursion to Bansko.
Being one of the party, I would like to say that LLs summation is a job well done. The report is honest, exact and conveys all of our parties feelngs precisely.
As the Lord rightly comments, the holiday was a fantastic success with the added bonus all of our 100 legs returning intact.

Having been to Bulgaria on numerous occasions with this party, I would have no hesitation in returning to this memorable land someday in the not too distant future, but I thought the whole purpose of this board of informations ( thanks for the phrase Mr G Potter ) is to convey the rough with the smooth and to advise fellow travellers of the some of the pitfalls, so they do not fall into the same traps as we did.
Lord Lewis was doing exactly that, without trying to detract from the holiday we all enjoyed so much.
I think the advice about the amount of theft/scams now appearing in the resort will help other posters to be more vigilant, and not let their visit be blemished by having their property stolen by these apparant tricksters.
A representative form Balkan Holidays should take heed from some of the comments justifiably aimed at the tour operator. The first day at the ski depot was organised chaos, and had a little more effort been awarded to the relatively simple operation of despatching ski passes then people would surely be more forthcoming with praise where it would be due.
The farce with the meals times at the Strazhite resulting in dinner being served more as a late lunch is surely a one off, so travellers going this week should not worry, but again this arrangement should have been portrayed to guests well in advance of arrival.
Lastly a word to a " A volunteer " who took LLs comments purely out of context. Get a sense of humour and stop spouting utter tosh about keeping your equipment with you at all times. As everybody knows this is not possible, unless as I suggest " A volunteer " purchases a pair of telescopic ski's and conceals them up his rectal passage for the duration of his holiday.
His idle threats must surely have left Lord Lewis quaking in his ski boots. Hah!!!
Anyway enough of my ramblings. To all those trippers who still have to visit Bansko or any other Bulgarian resort, do not worry, it's just a few bad apples who may possibly tarnish a perfect holiday, but just be vigilant and I am sure all will be well. Have a great time and be safe.
Camp Freddy.
ps. Thanks to PP et al for supporting Lord Lewis's appraisal.
Hurrah for the Campster, by the way, have now taken stock of a volunteers comments and have found myself in the position of offering him a post as sales director for my new company selling Telescopic Skis ( one size fits all Rectums) Thanx for the idea.
Bulgaria and Britain, working together in perfect Harmony.
Regards
Lord Lewis of Marston

I'll just add my small piece to this.

Great report your Lordship with plenty of useful information and tips.
I will certainly be careful where I leave my skis etc and be more vigilant about things in general.
I am sorry your holiday was let down by the hotel.
Has your Lordship fallen on hard times in that you did not stay 5 star at the Kempinski Grand?
Cathy,
Although it has indeed been a hard Year, what with Lady Langers taking out a major shareholding in Snow and Rock, the Kempinski was the preferred choice of his Lordship. However, one has to remember that the Kindred Spirits who follow my Noble self to the land of Bansko earn but a pittance and therefore found the Strazhite more to their Purse. As you would expect from one so Regal, i could hardly let them founder on their own without my guidance, so the Royal Suite was procurred for ...

If you noticed Volunteer's server, he is Bulgarian. And Bulgarians are very "patriotic" even though theft is thought to be OK, just a smart way of making money without much effort (and Brits are not respected for being honest and trusting but laughed at as being stupid - this is going back to the communist times when people's Christian values (Bulgarian church is Orthodox Christian) were destroyed and the rule of law did not exist at all and stealing went completely unpunished.

Mind you, it still does not - did you read about the recent heft of the mobile phone of the American's ambassador to Bulgaria by two customs officials at Varna Airport? The two unlucky idiots were obviously traced because the phone was fitted with a tracking device. And what did they have to say in their defence - if they had known whom it belonged to, they would not have stolen it. Understand, otherwise it would have been alright!
They have a popular saying in Bulgaria that you leave your d**k somewhere, it will get stolen. Recognise that saying, Volunteer?
Camp Freddie and the noble Lord are quite right in most if not all their comments but lets put the hotel into perspective, the general facilities and cleanliness of the hotel is very good a similar standard in the French Alps or Italy would cost you several hundred pounds more. The food is Bulgarian, cold but edible.Just! The scams on ski hire and theft is something which leaves a bitter taste. It is now safer to park your car in Liverpool than leave your skiis outside the Kettle bar. And ...

The food is Bulgarian, cold but edible.Just! The scams on ski hire and theft is something which leaves a bitter taste. It is now safer to park your car in Liverpool than leave your skiis outside the Kettle bar. And ladies watch for the dodgy gippo's hanging around the gondola mid station, they are clearly looking for an oppertunity to nick your ski as the car passes through the station. I hope Balken hols can have some influence on the Bansko authorities to control this problem which is now out of hand. Another scam is here at home at check in at the airport, on trying to charge £17 for boot bags, cash only and no reciept...hmmm a nice little earner! I'm not aware of any other company making this charge?? The one point the Lord got wrong was no injuries! I would like to thank the young lady who violated me from behind around 3.00pm Saturday afternoon on No.11 Red sending me crashing down on my shoulder followed by by a substantial slide down on my more than ample posterior. My dear I thankyou, hoorah for the rear entry!! How this can happen on the quietest widest piste in resort, i dont know, the piste is wider than the runway at Sophia is long, and my rear end not that wide! (despite popular opion) Anyway thanks to this violation I spent 5 hours in Oldham Royal and now require 6+ weeks intensive physio on my beer drinking arm! However thanks to the Failsworth 47 for great company and dont forget Camp Freddie for his leadership....HOORAH!
